Of course no one is going to go all out amd say "actually each race is different", for the sake of political correctness but there is scientific evidence that says races are more susceptible to certain diseases because of evolutionary and environmental reasons. For example, white people are more vulnerable to skin cancer than black people, for obvious reasons.

The religion that all races are the same except for skin color is just that, a religion. At least with Christianity original sin stopped with faith in Jesus' sacrifice.

ok, haven't read thread, but slightly drunk and casually following the wu-tang flu on the backburner.

heres my hot take: china was stealing research and scientists for a bioweapon program in the event the trade war with trump blew up and came to actual war.
someone fucked up, or someone pulled a resident evil and released the shit intentionally.
Its a coronavirus tweaked for high spreadability, hence the aids bits grafted in (edit: it seems to have a fondness for mammals, the rumors of pets getting the death sniffles)

China is bbqing bodies to quarantine and to fudge numbers to keep their economy from tanking.
There is a possibility its intentional to downsize their population.
they may have solved global warming by accident.

Wonder if disney, google, activition, the nba, and any other greedy coporate entity that should suck off a shotgun are gonna suck chinas ass once this shit pans out and a third of their population drops or they get exposed for fucking up and letting a bioweapon slip on their own population.

The conspiracy theory from non-american tinfoils is that America actually ingenered the virus because China has grown too much and so, America released the virus to disrupt China, so they can stay in power.

That is some serious damage, and will probably only get worse over the quarter.

With everything else going on, it looks like China may be in for another century of humiliation.

And to think that people seriously thought Taiwan would be military subsumed by China by 2040.

The bats are kept in buckets in horrible conditions in fish markets that are littered with half dead animals and blood and shit. These are all rotting corpses displayed for hours untill someone buys them or cooks them on the spot. Eventually, the virus can jump on to humans, my guess is the bat merchant is patient zero. He doesn't have to be sick, he can just be the carrier and not even know it.
Or, if the sick animal has not been thoroughly cooked and eaten, it spreads immediately and starts incubation.

Its plausible. Not to sound like a peta member or anything, but the way chickens are kept in industrial farms, if a virus in chickens ever happens to jump to humans, we're fucked.

But, people who are poor or weird enough to get random bat meat from the local fish shop are probably the sort of people who have had the sort of life experiences that they'd know not to eat their bat cooked to anything less than medium well.

New Zealand has closed its borders to any foreigners arriving from China – including those who have passed through in transit – and boosted its border screening in an attempt to prevent coronavirus arriving in the country.

New Zealand followed the United States, Australia, and eight other countries in completely barring foreign travellers from China, despite the World Health Organisation – and Chinese officials – decrying such restrictions.

“We have been advised by health officials that while there are still a range of unknowns in the way the virus is being transmitted, we should take a precautionary approach and temporarily stop travel into New Zealand from mainland China,” Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s prime minister, told reporters.

The travel ban will be in place for 14 days and will be reviewed every 48 hours.

On Monday, New Zealand’s customs authorities announced that screening efforts against the virus would be bolstered further, by processing manually all travellers entering the country at airports. Electronic gates that allow passengers to travel through passport control without speaking to a border official will be turned off.

“We kindly request travellers to be patient to enable a smooth and efficient transition for all,” New Zealand’s customs agency said on Twitter. The new manual screening rule applies to all passengers – including New Zealanders – arriving from any country.

There has not been a confirmed case of the virus in New Zealand.

Citizens and permanent residents, and their immediate families, who wish to return to New Zealand from China are required to isolate themselves for 14 days upon returning home, the government said.

Those who want to leave Wuhan province, the area at the centre of the outbreak, face a longer wait. Officials have yet to announce the timing of an evacuation flight planned for the coming days.

The 60-70 people who have registered their interest for the flight will, on their return to New Zealand, spend 14 days in isolation at a military base in Whangaparaoa on the country’s North Island.

New Zealanders have also been urged not to travel to China, with the ministry of foreign affairs and trade lifting its warning about the country to “do not travel,” the highest level of caution.

Air New Zealand on Monday suspended its Auckland to Shanghai route until 29 March.
