Stupid question, but is there any particular brands of bar or liquid Soap I should consider buying when I stock up on basic supplies tomorrow? Also, would buying a N95 mask be too paranoid or something I should consider? If so, any trust brands you guys would recommend? Thanks in advance.

Maybe I’m just dumb and I don’t know anything, but when’s the last time you’ve heard of a quarantine? I cant remember the last time I’ve heard of one, and again I’m probably just dumb and drawing a blank, and with 40 million people?
Ok a quick google search and I didn’t really see anything in recent American history. I guess there was a proposed one for the aids crisis but it didn’t pass.
Man, 40 million people. That’s a fat ass fucking net, I wonder what their trying to catch.

In all seriousness, you should stock up on basic supplies like food, water, and probably hand soap and sanitizing wipes. Any kind of medical mask will be useless at preventing you from catching the illness, but will be UTTERLY ESSENTIAL for you not spreading it to others around you. The thing about these medical masks they sell in stores is that they're not properly fitted around the outside of your mouth, so particles can get in just fine but anything leaving your mouth will have trouble. Even the custom fitted masks they give to surgeons won't work, because they're only intended to be used for a few hours. The best way for you to not get sick is to avoid places where large numbers congregate, wipe down things like doorknobs and shopping cart handles before you use them (although good luck not looking paranoid), and staying the fuck home when you are sick.

Also, are you under 18? Over 50? No? Then you probably have less to worry about. It's the elderly that are going to get it the worst. So if you take care of an older person, the concern should be ensuring you do not spread the disease to them and preventing them from interacting with high risk areas/people.

Oh boy!

UPDATE 10:55 PM EST --

China's Hubei and Guangdong provinces declare first-level public health emergency

All major hospitals in Wuhan have fallen. On the first floor of the neurosurgery, all the doctors and patients were infected, and all the wards were closed.

The director of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Union Hospital and the director of the department of nail and breast surgery of the Central Hospital, all the recruits have been on the ventilator!
Cai Xin, executive deputy editor-in-chief, said in a message:

Well over 10,000 people have become ill, and the remaining 10 million people in Wuhan are also in danger.

---

Chinese Government Official Proudly Boasts: "80000 respirators donated by Chinese members of the public that live abroad, have arrived in Wuhan. Another 160000 respirators and 15000 sets of protective coverall are on its way to Wuhan, China"

REMARK: (Gee, if they only have 830 sick people and only 25 deaths, why this much gear? Oh, wait, could it be because the numbers they've given out publicly are FALSE and the numbers being reported on the Hal Turner Show web site are true?)

Additional Public Updates will appear below . . .

UPDATE 1:45 AM EST --

Source in Wuhan reports the following:

>Parents turned away by hospital, both his mother and father were taken by PRC military and loaded onto trucks, not told where they were being taken.
>When he asked too many questions the police were involved by the men escorting patients to the truck loading area, told to leave things alone, go home and stop asking questions
>People in the building opposite him are complaining of bad smells, they believe many families who were told to self-quarantine are now possibly dead in their apartments
>All landlines have no dial tone, his aussie cell phone works with roaming enabled but cannot get even 3g data now.
>5pm-9pm yesterday the city was doused in powder by PRC air force, disinfectant - used also in shanghai
>He has been watching people from his window, panic has set in because even relatively young are now dropping over even in his street.

Yes, he has a meeting with neighbors to discuss things and then will send me even more info. Source also reports:

Wechat, weibo etc are ALL being censored, the death toll reported is bullshit, the 25 dead happened in mid dec after the outbreak.

If you see China quarantining any of these cities, know that the shit is hitting the fan:
> Shanghai
> Shenzhen
> Ningbo-Zhoushan

These are their three largest container ports. They are necessary for world commerce, and closing any of these three would result in a rapid collapse of their economy.

If they quarantine any of these cities, the situation is out of hand.

UPDATE 1:50 AM EST --

Jingzhou, a city of nearly 6 million people, will be put on lockdown from 5 p.m.

More details on Jingzhou lockdown.

edit: To clarify, I take a mass hysteria position on corona, this article is mostly just posted for the sake of posting it.

I just saw a Coronavirus-chan in a Paul Joseph Watson video I watched just before dropping in here ...

... already making the rounds on the 'chans.

I love this. Better than bear pooh. Just proves that 5000 years of cultural history can still end up spawning a nation of 1.38 billion lolcows ...

One of the big advantages of any kind of mask and eye protection is that it prevents you from touching your mouth and your eyes. Colds rely on you touching a mucous membrane to spread. Yes it seems as though this virus is also airborne but the viral load you get from a droplet on your hand directly to your eye or your mouth is much higher than just breathing it in.

Dial antibacterial is what I use. Go to a hardware store for particle masks. Having those handy isn't a sign of paranoia even if you go for them now. Just tell the nosey pricks you're replacing insulation and drywall or laugh and tell them to fuck off.

3M masks. Order them off Amazon. You want the 9500s, the ones with the filter attachment. The mask itself is disposable, you should be good using each one a couple times, but use your judgement. You can get them in cases of 100, I'd get as many as possible. If this all blows over, it's possible to sell them individually on eBay.

These masks conform to your face. There's a thin metal bar you just push in to create a seal. It attaches with rubber bands around the neck, you want to wash before and after touching them. Sweat often accumulates there, you want to treat them the same way you would a door knob.

When it comes to soap, anything antibacterial will suffice.

Nice try, at least get us an actual source from the ground

This is sort of concerning to me because I've got something of a weak immune system, and I don't really have the money for medical care at this point.

How many cities in the US have cases now? I heard Everett, Chicago, and New York. Anywhere else?

I haven't heard of any besides those. Just watch out for obviously sick people in public, step up the hygeine, remove shoes and change clothes when coming home.

Yeah, sounds wise. I live in a major city with a lot of international travel, is the thing, and I have to be out on the road looking for work or else I'll be out on the road looking for a place to live, so I can't just be a paranoid NEET and lock the doors until it passes.

From Epidemiologist.

"we predict the epidemic in Wuhan will be substantially larger by 4 February (191,529 infections; prediction interval, 132,751-273,649), infection will be established in other Chinese cities, and importations to other countries will be more frequent. "

"SUMMARY: so what does this mean for the world??? We are now faced with the most virulent virus epidemic the world has ever seen. An R0=3.8 means that it exceeds SARS’s modest 0.49 viral attack rate by 7.75x — almost 8 fold! A virus that spreads 8 faster than SARS... "

Two probable coronavirus cases in NSW
There are two probable cases of coronavirus in NSW and five other people possibly have the disease, health officials have announced.

All seven patients are undergoing hospital testing and the two probable cases have been fully isolated.

NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said she expected test results for one of the two probable cases later this afternoon.

Results for the other case would be available on Sunday morning at the earliest.

The announcement comes after Australia's first coronavirus patient was confirmed in Melbourne on Saturday morning.
All six NSW patients have recently returned from visits to Wuhan in China, which is the epicentre of the cornavirus outbreak. While in China, one of the patients had contact with a person who was sick with the disease, Dr Chant said.
Dr Chant estimated the two probable patients had crossed paths with "many tens of people" since their arrival in Australia, but NSW Health is awaiting exact figures.
"At this stage we are contacting everybody in accordance with the national guidelines and treating them as if they are confirmed," Dr Chant said.
While authorities do not fully understand how the coronavirus spreads, it is thought to be less contagious than measles and only transmissible once a patient has started showing symptoms.

"The risk of transmission is still very, very low," Dr Chant said.
"So if we can get that message, that if you get the symptoms after returning from overseas, or you have been in contact with a known case of coronavirus, seek care immediately. Seek care urgently."

The symptoms of the new virus are similar to a cold or flu and can include breathing difficulties.
In China, the official death toll from the coronavirus has jumped from 26 people to 41 people overnight.

More than 1,300 people have been infected globally, as health authorities around the world scramble to prevent a global pandemic.
The total number of confirmed cases in China now stands at 1,287, the National Health Commission said in a statement on Saturday.
China Eastern Airlines flights from Sydney to and from the Chinese city Xi'an via Wuhan have been cancelled through to March 29. The airline is contacting affected customers.
"The health and safety of our customers and employees is our number one priority," a statement from the airline said on Friday.

There's a case in the midwest. Time to get a hazmat suit and take ALL the elderberry things. Could also just hide in a bunker. The flu is already bad enough right now.

Ninja'd.

A friend from JHU sent me that Tweet just before I saw it here. Dr. Feigl-Ding is preeminent in this field, the Lancet article is generating this response from everyone who reads it. Hopefully it's wrong and everyone can stop worrying, going to watch his feed for the all clear.

This is worth watching. They are going to run out of space for the numbers by Feb 2.

Jeez, this is so bad I can't sleep. I'm certain everything is going to be alright in the end, equally certain I should be prepping.

They completely outsmarted us already - their true strength lies within their immune system.

Superpower 2020 for sure. I, for one, welcome our pajeet overlords. Everyone get ready to do the needful.

We laughed at them for not having toilets. We laughed at them for shitting in the streets. We laughed at them for wiping with their hands. But now they're laughing at us for not spending thousands of years honing and strengthening our immune systems. Our antibodies are like sloppily hammered iron and theirs are pure steel folded over 1000 times.

Don't want to PL, but I currently find myself in less-than-comfortable proximity to the outbreak, surrounded by Chinese people. I'm far more concerned for the people around me, as I've always weathered these sorts of bugs very well. Should probably go ahead and invest in a mask so I don't kill any old ladies by accident.
