I kind of like how everyone's completely forgotten about Iran now. Ayatollah's going to have to come up with something extraordinary to get any attention back now Chinky SuperAIDS (PRC EDITION) (TM) is all over the news. If Beijing keeps this fiasco going, nbody will remember where Iran even IS in a another week which may actually suit the regime right now. Serious as a heart attack when I say this: In China, no one washes their hands. Ever.
The only place you see liquid hand soap is hotels. I've had friends visit the US for the first time and think the soap in the bathroom is for masturbation.
They also don't keep leftovers in the fridge. They buy fresh meat and vegetables for meals every day. It's all kept in the open, you squeeze the steak the same way you would fruit in the West.
There are infected walking around markets right now, feeling meat with their bare hands and damning the family that will eventually eat it.
The entire Country is a death trap in a pandemic. High density urban housing, incredibly low standards of hygiene, highly suggestible populace that will believe whatever the government tells them, food handling standards on par with a city dump. Plus people absolutely hate doctors.

Anyway, back in the 70s a cloud of weaponized smallpox got out of the lab and drifted over part of the town and on a ship on the Aral sea. Fortunately since they were a closed city and still an island at the time it was pretty easy to shut that shit down. They also dumped a bunch of anthrax contaminated shit from the above mentioned incident in the area.
After 9/11 and the anthrax letters, the US assisted in the decontamination of the anthrax dump on the site, which had since become connected to the mainland and desertified. However, at the collapse of the USSR, the scientists tried to burn down the labs before abandoning the site, but apparently there's still beakers and sealed shit. Explorers in full hazard gear had their respirators get clogged real fast, so it may well still be a biohazard.

But the Communists are not allowed to be wrong, ever, so they brainwashed the survivors into thinking shoving ginger and endangered tiger paw pills in your asshole is the same -- no, better, because it's CHINESE -- than chemotherapy or antibiotics or whatnot.
Meanwhile, they took an entire generation of "privileged" kids and dragged them out into indoctrination camps, where they learned ass backwards stupid shit like "scorpion patties are better than beef" and "Communism works."

The numbers are growing exponentially, especially compared to the early reports of SARS but part of that is because they've already got lab testing available & those test reagents are being sent everywhere. There's also a seemingly more open approach by China although I think they're still keeping a close hold on a few specifics.
It's a coronavirus & those typically cause colds. I'm betting that for every case positively lab tested, no matter how severe the illness, there are a shit ton of milder cases out in the community or communities. That's both good & bad - good because the real case fatality rate, (if could know the true extent of case numbers), is considerably lower than it appears. Bad because a corona 'cold' can pass through several generations of infection without notice. Xing Wa in Wuhan catches a cold, passes it to his neighbour who travels to another city & a few transmissions later, it pops up in... Berlin & can't really be traced.
The case numbers will continue to grow exponentially for some weeks at least, with jumps in deaths lagging by about a week. MOST deaths are older and/or have pre-existing medical conditions. This is NOT looking anything like smallpox, H5N1 or anything with a really high case fatality rate... not yet at least & we'd be seeing indications of that if it were so inclined.
Eat well, get your sleep. fresh air & wash your hands a lot. Most people have nothing to fear.
