If the government of Wuhan enforced their sanitary laws and took prompt action when the virus surfaced back in the beginning of December last year, we wouldn't be seeing this thread.
But they have priorities, such as arresting people for "spreading rumours" and going to celebrations.

China has these laws, it looks refined on the paper, but what good does it do if there's no enforcement? They have learned nothing, letting a virus 80% similar to SARS resurface, how pathetic.

Thats like saying the 60,000 last year killed by the Flu was due to poor hygiene. Viruses spread period. Over hygience in America is killing people because their immune systems suck. It was only when the Red Guard threatened to further devolve into an outright mob and began attacking the government itself did Mao realize he made a big oopsie, and promptly ordered his army to disassemble the group and send them off to be re-re-educated to tone them down a notch.

To make a bunch of gabble into a readable sentence, the Lost Generation was millions of unfortunate kids in the mid-1900s who lost their chance at a normal, functioning childhood, some of them having been completely mind-wiped by the CCP.

Jesus. The comment about the officials celebrating while the city faces plague reminds me of what CCP leaders and cadres would do throughout China during the Great Famine, 1958-62. The reaction people have to some foods like bat sort of reminds me how vegans - or Indians - react to when we eat an "innocent" cow. Pigs are about as filthy and dangerous as an animal can get yet we eat it as long as it is been sanitized and cooked properly. So yeah, would I eat Bat? yes, I would. Probably tastes a lot like Eel or rat - of which I've enjoyed.

Crocodile, kangaroo and emu meat is fine, a bit exotic but fine. Look at my earlier posts, what drives a person to eat raw fucking bats and civets? Look at the list I provided which I also translated. It's fine to eat bigger wild animals with appropriate cooking, which the Chinese are fucking failing at. The weird meats we have are checked and cooked properly, the ones in China are not. Do you think Wuhan is some random shithole? It's not, Wuhan is on top of the Tier 2 cites, sub-tier-1, it's a place that's well planned and becoming the economic centre of the region, yet their officials are incompetent eunuchs.

Eh! Of all the horrific examples of incompetance by the PRC and local government officials, that one is not really that damning. Pretty much every major industrialized nation has a few of those in it's history. Often it's modern history. Google Galveston Explosion some time. You may have to pick and choose a bit to select exactly which one. The US has more experience good and bad with these sorts of events, and the strictest codes laws and regulations governing them. Yeah, I keep hearing this and that about whats wrong with China, but at the end of the day its got the largest middle class in the world and the standards are a 1000 percent what they were and they are climbing higher and higher. Its just sort of getting old...there are 1.4 billion people there and frankly, little goes wrong given the population size that they have. So we have a few thousand dead here and there from some virus we find came from a bat, primate, monkey or a pig or whatever and we all start screaming about standards...if they had no standards at all you'd have scares like this happening in a dozen locations in China each month. But we don't. Bat has been consumed safely by millions of people for thousands of years. So has pig, rat, cat,snakes, crocodiles, wombat, kangaroos, squirrels and chipmunks. Meanwhile, in America, 50,000 people a year of dying from superbugs given to patients visiting hospitals - but lets concentrate on a bat in China and their poor hygiene standards...Since December 31, over 3000 people in the USA were killed going to our hospitals by a bug due to sanitation.

I think it's generally just a problem with centralized bureaucracies - it creates a system where there's a lack of accountability and everyone feels like it's someone else's problem (until it ends up becoming everyone's problem). This happens in virtually every communist country. Whenever someone collapses in a communist country, everyone just carries on with their day. There's a reason why 90% of liveleak is Russian dashcams and Chinese secuirty footage.

I really hope China's quarantines is just the government testing out their new crowd control tech, otherwise I think we're seriously fucked.

Yeah, there are also parallels to the Fukashima disaster as well. If people are needlessly panicking, it is thanks to the reaction of the PRC/CCP authorities, who first down played the virus as "nothing to see here, this is fine" to quarantining entire metropolises, when it is probably too late to do anything about it.

If nothing else, it show that the leaders and bureaucrats of China aren't the wise, long-term thinkers that some modern Westerners believe, but same kind of short-term-thinking dullards and opportunists, like everywhere else.

I don't think this will hit global pandemic levels because most actual governments give more of a shit about keeping their taxpayers alive and will do far better at enacting disease control should it get to that point. However, I think this incipient outbreak is already damaging the brand image of the Chinese Communist Party and if this shit seriously kicks off on a regional level within China that would have some interesting knock on effects.

I don't think you are being ridiculous. Perhaps a little trigger happy and your acting a bit too soon. I'd give it 10 more days because by then a calculation of spread, incubation and fatality will be well established and simulations can be then run with some degree of accuracy. But if there is a real leap BEFORE that 10 period, I'm probably gonna be the guy right next to you in the supermarket grabbing supplies. It'd be a real shame cause I fucking love chinese food.

You don't see the bad news because I only post when there's serious news. As far as I'm aware, I'm really the only one that would consistent put this shit out. 1000% times zero is still fucking zero. SARS was caused by bats and civets, this new virus is caused by bats and allegedly snakes that were bit by the bats, which some in Wuhan consumes raw.
I'm more than happy to chant on about how the infrastructure is new and well planned, how public transport is cheap, how good the HSR is for travelling... sure. Food standards are still low as fuck. Not much has changed. Gutter oil is rid of, harmful chemicals used in baby powder is no longer an issue... yeah the big and nasty stuff is kind of sorted. How about the sanitary standards, the openness of markets enabling cross contamination? Have you been to China? Because I can tell you that absolutely nothing has changed when it comes to these markets and the filth they are.

Did you see how the officials handled the virus in the beginning? They saw it as a joke. Case in point, this entire thing is preventable. This virus is 80% similar to SARS, you'd think they learned the lesson.

This is exactly why my average meal in China would cost $30, costs twice as much compared to what I eat in Australia, the portions are kind of small too, that's for a country with very cheap food that's not at all unhealthy. You don't think it's pathetic? I have to shop at Japanese and western import stores seen as posh and unnecessary. Also the tap water there is undrinkable, well you can drink it and get sent to the hospital like the 11yo of myself.

But yeah, some weird bugs are killing people, why should I care? People die in Africa at bigger masses, mosquitoes and dogs kill more people than contaminated food. Let's play this goalpost game indefinitely.

Personally, I dont think it is to paranoid to stack on food and stuffs, as long as they have a long shelf life. You can use them later even this event isn't as big as you imagine.
