According to the Calgary Herald, Pawlowski had broken two previous court orders to follow public health measures, and Alberta Health Services sought to place him in jail for 21 days. However, Court of Queen's Bench Justice Adam Germain said that doing so "would simply martyr him."

The judge ruled that in addition to being fined and put on probation, they have to also preach science if they continue to fight COVID-19 public health rules, according to CBC.

This means they have to present medical expert opinions and facts when preaching anti-mask narratives.

Judge Germain said that Scott and the Pawlowskis "have contributed to this ominous health situation" and "encouraged others to doubt the legitimacy of the pandemic."

The judge added that this included inciting followers to go against public health restrictions, and gathering in large groups while unmasked. The article also noted that the Pawlowskis "denied health officials entry to their church in Dover, a neighbourhood in southeast Calgary."

Pastor Pawlowski now has to pay his $23,000 fine and serve 18 months probation during which he must obey all Alberta Health Services orders and provide 120 hours of community service work.

What can I say, bleak times ahead. Here at Puerto Pollo's home we've already tuned down heating- Italy is currently experiencing the coldest autumn in years- from 20 to 18 degrees, everyone in the house is wearing hoodies and thermal shirts, sleeping all dressed up in bed, turned off all non essential lights.

I'm also aggressively hunting discount stores promotions for whatever is discounted, haven't renewed my public transportation pass and gave up on signing at a gym...and we're barely scraping by. One bill higher than usual and we'll have to cut fancy foods like ground beef and canned tuna. Already switched from fresh to UHT milk and filled the garage with 5kg boxes of flour, potatoes and dried cereals for a bit of peace of mind.

I'm very concerned about the future and my family is moderately well-off compared to the average Italian household. I can't even conceive how "normal", lower-middle class people will manage to get through this. My formerly ethnically homogenous, wealthy Italian city is becoming more and more like a neighborhood of Los Angeles.

What's even going on in poor regions of Southern Italy? Or Eastern Europe? And why are we still taking thousands of Africans, Pakistani and whatever the third world is regurgitating on us? They even refused the fucking vaccine.

I am so sick of this "on the wrong side of science" shit. Science is a liar, sometimes. If people just accepted whatever "the science" was currently telling them, and didn't question it, we'd still be stuffing our houses with asbestos, performing lobotomies, and believing that the sun revolved around the Earth. You should question the science. If it's all true, and correct, then, surely, it should hold up to scrutiny, right? The truth does not fear question. If someone tells you not to question something, that means they're trying to hide something

Sorry for being a bit off topic but I'm exactly the right age to remember the purported MMR scandal very well, and I totally agree that Private Eye are at least as responsible for the damage done because of how wholeheartedly they promoted Wakefield, and how long they stayed committed to promoting him long after his research had been convincingly discredited. They did do a big mea culpa issue when they finally dropped him but it was tiny compared to the endless issues they'd had showcasing him. They were so well respected for exposing other scandals that people really trusted them when they supported Wakefield, and the impact is still there now even beyond the children damaged by measles, both directly in people still being sceptical about MMR and indirectly in how it's pushed questioning vaccines/new medical approaches in general into being perceived as the act of fantasists and idiots.

It damaged Private Eye too, because they were no longer trustworthy.

Ian Hislop says his greatest regret is making Boris Johnson loveable through Have I Got News For You, but the impact of the MMR debacle should really be up there too.

To post something on topic: why is the AstraZenica vaccine still not approved in America? Are there other countries that won't approve it? I know there was an issue with batches manufactured in certain places (India?) being regarded as unapproved, but I've lost track of the whole thing tbh.

The reports are that Clinton was suffering some kind of bacterial infection and improved with antibiotics. Of course they're probably lying as they always lie.

Also member when we still thought the coof was deadly and someone in this thread was talking about how when plagues like this come along that all the usual limitations on state power suddenly vanish as society reacts to an existential threat? I guess he was half right.
