I like where I live. It's not perfect but the lockdown has quelled the noise and kids blaring music from their shitty cars. Migrating birds start singing right before daybreak. Sometimes I catch sight of an American kestrel when the cats rush towards the window right before the sun comes out. I hear my neighbor's Dobie barking at other pups during his morning walk. There are three supermarkets, six pharmacies and lots of restaurants within a three block radius. I'm not leaving because city living is horrible, I'm leaving because the grifters in charge are destroying it, just like the Cross Bronx Expressway killed neighborhoods in the Bronx and the Columbus projects killed the First Ward in Newark.
Blink Blink... He said what? Teacher's Union, Hell. Parents, And damn near all of them. Even those that don't see school as simply free daycare to keep the kids out of their hair and somewhat supervised are going to want his head on a pike. And the free-daycare crowd definitely will. It's not like even a well-behaved eight year old can just be left home all day with a stack of work or even a tablet with a teacher ineffectively nagging them over video. That's just not going to work.

Sorting out a less-centralized schooling (Education being something else) program might be a wonderful idea, And could probably eventually work if they shifted over to it gradually so that problems with the system could be found and solved and over some time instead of just hoping really hard it will happen all at once. Someone is going to have to be around to keep kids at least sort-of working and not killing each other or burning the house down. There's probably a way to make that work with the parents busy at work that's not the current school setup but I don't know what that looks like. And unless Cuomo can convincingly describe it first and sell the idea the current system is what everyone is going to want or need to go back to.

Is this guy on drugs? And if so, What? Because I really should avoid whatever he's on.
Folks will take advantage of this to keep their kids out of shit schools. That horse left the barn and home schooling is now a thing.

And now I bring New York cornonavirus tales of ordinary madness Part 4

Booting bums off the train: City workers sent to kick the homeless off the subway failed to provide a way to transport them to said shelters because there was no night train service. Duh.

Miserly Mayor de Blasio said he's planning to furlough/lay off essential municipal employees if the city doesn’t receive federal stimulus funds from Drumpf. Refuses to cut money from ThriveNYC, the program which mysteriously provides no services to anyone. It's run by his wife, the former lesbian turned Michelle Obama wannabe Chirlane McCray.

Have scissors, will travel: Long Island barber cited for hair cutting in the back of his pickup truck on Führer Cuomo's orders for not complying with coronavirus aktion.

Time to get fit fatties: Long Island officials told an entire town to go on a diet. Coronavirus stress eating is taking a toll on all of us but these "orders" are a bit over the line.

Staying home doesn't save lives, apparently: Two-thirds of New Yorkers hospitalized with the coronavirus were admitted from their homes. Niall Ferguson proven wrong, again. @deeplyhigh already posted this but I'm adding the tabloid version

Les Misérables indeed: Museum of Natural History, The Metropolitan Opera, furloughing and laying off workers due to coronavirus shutdown.

Yeah, a friend from high school's son got it, and she kept saying "it doesn't make sense, we're staying at home" but she had selfies of her and the kids at the grocery store and had friends and family popping over for visits. This is one of the most zealous "stay the fuck home!" people I know too.

I imagine the number of people who have genuinely not left their house at all or had contact with people outside the home is very small, some people just don't seem to think it counts as long as they're mostly staying home.

Let's be honest, though; that was always going to be the case. You can't get hundreds of millions of people to all agree to do anything for any length of time, particularly something that's so against normal human behavior and almost entirely on the honor system. Expecting people to completely shun human contact for months wasn't ever going to be all that effective, even if this thing was ten times as lethal.

- To add to the above, Cuomo also decided to partner with Bill Gates to turn the virtual online education of kids into a new permanent thing. Proclaiming Schools will never go back to the old way. The single most powerful group in New York State is the teachers Union. They’ve just gone apoplectic. They might actually have him killed.

and these are all groups with a lot of power to make his life miserable and unearth his vast closet full of skeletons.

The public sector unions got the Wisconsin governor back on the ballot for recall back in the early 2010s, and I can easily imagine the public sector unions trying to sweet talk the conservatives of New York into doing a recall election and putting some moderate/RINO on the ballot that will kowtow to the unions while paying lip service to conservatives.

Oh yeah, I think people are nuts if they think people are going to lock themselves up in a panic room for a year. It's just not feasible at all.

It's just funny to me to see people who are like "if you don't stay at home, you're literally killing people" and calling the cops on people who go outside even though they're going out too.

It's the "other people are traffic, but not me" effect.

I'm glad Kiwi Farms is sensible, there was another forum I liked to go and I was scorned for making the suggestion that the reopenings are a good thing and you won't get sick and die from visiting a clothing store, and that waiting for test kits/vaccines to come would be suicide.

During an outing today, I passed by a student apartment complex to see a bunch of predominantly white college kids (presumably because the pool was closed) sunbathing and goofing off at the "lake" the apartment complex had out front. Meanwhile, the black teenagers at the park less than a mile away have never stopped playing basketball.

Going back to the meat processing plants and their contamination with corona (among other things); if your beef has been handled by a dude who had corona, can you just thoroughly cook the meat to kill the virus? Doesn't heat kill the corona virus?

Meat has a problem with bacteria, which can easily live and reproduce on meat. But viruses don't actually "live", they need live cells to make copies of itself and spread. Meat, is of course, non-living, there's no live cells to make new copies, and since meat takes at least a week and a half to get to market (more for aged steak), the virus is effectively gone (on surfaces, it can't stay for more than 72 hours). Now the physical package in which the meat is sold is another matter, but as for coronavirus on beef? Nah.

This thread moves fast as always. So I'm going to talk about these cows, because what's Kiwifarms without cow sperging?
cows at the beach Spain.jpg
Spain? I was thinking that would be India.
There's been cows that decided to show up on the beaches of Bolonia. That is Bolonia the village of Tarifa (Cadiz Province) not the Italian city of the same name.

That was one of the pictures used by the news. I know from hospital groups the fact cows are having a good time in the beach in Bolonia is real, I cannot confirm the photo to not be indian though, 'cause journos are idiots. So if anyone can tell the difference by checking the horizon or some shit I'll be glad to search for other evidence.

They look like Retinto cows, which are bred in Cadiz. Indian cows look nothing like these enjoying themselves at the beach.
So yes, the photo is legit.

EDIT: found the source

And another one, with more cows. The guy says they're vacas retintas, it seems my guess was right.

People have been saying the coronavirus would be the end of Trump. Honestly though, I think its gonna be the exact opposite. For decades the Republican and Democratic parties have been in lock step when it came to supporting establishment "consensus". All the neo-conservative and neo-liberal shenanigans. Which were let's face it, essentially the same thing.

Trump however came in with a full bore demand for nationalism, populism, and whether he associates with them or not, views the working class as his primary political base and acts accordingly. The most shocking thing? The Republican party, long the party of the smoke filled room, industrialist robber barons and country club gentry has morphed into the party of the working joe (and jane). More shocking, the Republicans under Trump seem to have found a coherent political ideology based around economics and individual freedom that sets them MASSIVELY apart from the democrats.

All in the span of 4 years. And the pandemic has only accelerated this seismic shift in American politics. The Republicans, far from using the pandemic to dump trump have instead only accelerated the revolution within the party. The coming election is going to be fascinating. The democrats are going into it led by a geriatric old man who cant tell his wife from his sister, with absolutely no belief system at all to offer beyond a raw and naked desire for power and a shrill demand to return to the natural order of things. Where they are in charge.

It is weird that it was the Former Democrat from New York that did it too, his reaction to the Virus surprised me I honestly would have expected Trump to be a "Big Government come in and stick its dick in the situation." and mostly he has done the opposite.

You're right about the general perception of the Republicans changing, but I find it odd that you put so much emphasis on the past four years. It makes me wonder how it's perceived different from place to place, because while I get what you mean about the old image of the Reupblicans as the corporate party, the rural Southern Republicans always viewed it as the party of working white people (even when it trampled over its interests).

There's also at least one Facebook group I know of dedicated to spying on neighbors, snitching and actually compiling and passing around a blacklist of people and businesses who are "Nazis" to be destroyed and unpersoned.

gotta say, that's the first time I've seen the "china gave us corona purposefully" take from someone who didn't align themselves with the protesters. what a guy.

Even during the actual plague, people couldn’t and didn’t. They did know that contact spread it, because this is where the concept of quarantine comes from, and there are some examples of people actualy writing it down. In a small village in the north of England they made the collective choice to isolate completely to stop the contagion teaching the bigger northern cities. So they knew full well that contact spread it but they couldn’t isolate, because they needed to eat and work and function.
No man is an island - it’s almost impossible to be completely off grid as an individual. It is not possible for people to isolate like this. I say this as a massive introvert, but it’s clearly causing huge stress, it’s impractical to the point of impossibility and it won’t work.
It only takes a few contacts to break the whole thing apart. A tiny fraction of contact is enough. All those people being admitted from home shows it doesn’t work. The fact we had cases last year shows it was widespread.

lockdownnow is political and power based, not based in any rationale.

This is the same kind of person who wears their mask improperly and gives the evil glare when someone says she has more than the limit on toilet paper or meat.

I already know it's a woman.

I live in a left-leaning US city: the only people refusing to wear masks are blacks. Earlier today I went to a convenience store, and saw a fat black guy chimping out on the black clerks and black security guard for refusing him service. The guy had a full meltdown like a middle aged white woman. Of course, you'd never hear about that on social media amidst the circle jerk of blaming white conservitards and these supposed "Nazis" for being entitled.

The two worst customers on the planet are Middle Aged White Women and 18-25 Black Men.

Going to leave this mid-March exchange from the lockdowns and cancellations thread here:
Guys, I got a completely revolutionary idea: why not instead of immediately resorting to economy-tanking, school-fucking measures which massively disrupt 99% of the entire first world, why not...strongly advise elders to be cautious and stay at home as much as possible? Maybe even resort to quarantining just them? And then start closing schools and businesses and shit if that doesn't curb the elder infection cases—you know, the ones that are actually potentially life-threatening—after a week?

So hey, can one or more of you autists put my mind at ease?

I've been hearing about potentially permanent damage inflicted to the body by Corona-chan, but... that's only likely in cases of very severe symptoms, right?
I've looked into this a little bit and it sounds like newspapers harping about temporary damage.
