I remember the cold war. Used to have nightmares sometimes about nuclear attacks imminent and the early warning sirens in my city in times when things boiled a bit over here and there sometimes or the soviet union got erratic in it's last years. One time a group of sirens malfunctioned in my area and went off at night apropos of nothing, that was fun. So much that I'll never forget it. Couldn't even jump on the internet to figure out if they finally did it and ended the world. Only had a pocket radio. Then the various coup attempts in about-to-dissolve soviet union and young russia that were also scary because they brought about a lot of uncertainty. Most here didn't witness this is my guess, even a young russian woman I know never even heard about the latter. It's funny how quickly all that fear was forgotten, while it was dominating minds, arts, and culture back then. My guess it'll go an equal way here until the next super-AIDS, but it really is a joke in comparison and I just wouldn't concern myself as much as some people in this thread do. You can't do anything anyways. If it's hyper-ebola, you're fucked. If it's less than that, it depends on your own luck and certain common sense rules everyone knows about. Everything beyond that is out of your control. What I figured out back then is that if the world ends, a few cans of beans and a bunch of water is not gonna make your life afterwards worthwhile. Might as well not stress out about something like that.
The collapse of Soviet Union fucked Central Asia much more than it did Russia.

I thought we would be pretty safe. Why did it have to be a school at my end of the state too? Why couldn't it have been Cleveland? Fucking chinks dude.
I'm pretty sure the Miami river is host to flesh eating bacteria so it's not like that place isn't a veritable breading ground for fucked up shit....look at the townies of any south western Ohio town lol.

China Has Not Accepted U.S. Offers to Send CDC Experts to Aid in Coronavirus Fight
U.S. health officials said that they have been offering for weeks to send experts to help China combat the coronavirus that has claimed at least 106 lives.

At press conference Tuesday, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said the U.S. first offered to send experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on January 6 but China has not yet accepted the offer.

“CDC experts are standing by, ready willing and able to go immediately to China, either on a bilateral basis or under the auspices of the World Health Organization,” Azar said. “This is a major public health issue and we basically just need the best public health people we have in the world working on this.”

U.S. personnel could aid China in answering critical public health questions about how the virus spreads, its incubation period, and if it can be spread by those not yet showing symptoms, CDC Director Robert Redfield said.

“We are urging China: more cooperation and transparency are the most important steps you can take toward a more effective response,” Azar said.

Although U.S. officials appeared to be frustrated by China’s apparent reluctance to accept aid, they emphasized that China has been far more cooperative than it was during the 2003 SARS outbreak.

Azar described his conversations with Chinese counterparts as “very hopeful and productive.” Azar said the CDC was able to quickly develop a rapid diagnostic test because China had made the virus’ genome available.

Azar also said that the U.S. would be willing to implement travel restrictions if it decides that such measures are appropriate.

“In terms of travel restrictions, as I spoke about in my opening remarks, it’s important to not take anything off the table with a rapidly emerging novel infectious disease,” Azar said.

World Health Organization said on Tuesday that China has agreed to allow international experts to China as soon as possible but did not specify if that included U.S. officials.
Can't accept outside help, that would cause a loss of face.

After all, China can totally handle this by themselves.

Thank god I was scared for a minute they would quarantine the rich chinks trying to escape and not instead endorse it, I hope both them and their gift makes it safely to US soil :)
GOD DAMN IT DONALD.
He said he was gonna be tough on China but no we're sucking their syphilitic yellow cock instead. It's gonna fuck us in the ass dry prison style if we don't cut direct flights like right now. Not to say it'll probably spill over from other countries but atleast by then we'd maybe have some time to do a containment plan. Looking at the data it's going to get worse before it gets better. We don't even have anything organized in most of the country and just like China our disorganization can throw shit of the rails. I'm not going to say it's going to be out right chaos but it's going to be a bitch if we keep letting vectors in. Quarantine may not be enough the disease already is popping up in states and like that for every 1 person being a vector you can individually expect up to 14 people to be potentially infected. All while the regular flu season being in full swing so you don't even have to travel to China to get it at this point all you have to do is just be an unlucky bastard to cross paths with some one who had it. With the symptoms replicating straight up flu cold and pneumonia symptoms it's going to be atleast a bit before we can get confirmed cases. I'm not even sure the hospital in working for even knows what to do other than treat it like Ebola. Even then there's going to be a huge system strain, I highly doubt we can even get enough supplies to treat a lot of cases if we don't have time to order in bulk. That shit takes 2 weeks at least. We lucked out with Ebola because no heavy cases reached our shores. But this lol nope. Bigger more metropalitian hospitals may have an easier time, but if keeps going at the rate it is were going to be low on supplies quick.

FINALLY heard back from CDC. Came thirty minutes ago.

Here's the text of the email.

Thank you for contacting CDC-INFO.

We hope you find the following information about coronavirus treatment helpful.

There is no specific antiviral treatment recommended for 2019-nCoV infection. People infected with 2019-nCoV should receive supportive care to help relieve symptoms. For severe cases, treatment should include care to support vital organ functions.

People who think they may have been exposed to 2019-nCoV should contact your healthcare provider immediately.

This information can also be found on CDC’s website at URL: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/prevention-treatment.html

Well, the question's been asked and answered.

US drug makers are sending antivirals to China to see if and how they work. So people in China and the USA believe there's a chance something will be effective.

U.S. Drugmakers Send Antiviral Drugs To China To Assess Treatment Effectiveness Against Coronavirus
Jan 28, 2020

Wall Street Journal: U.S. Drugmakers Ship Therapies to China, Seeking to Treat Coronavirus
“U.S. drugmakers are shipping antiviral drugs to Chinese health authorities to assess whether the medicines could help contain the explosion of respiratory virus infections sweeping the country. … There are no vaccines or drugs approved anywhere in the world specifically for the new coronavirus, prompting health authorities to explore repurposing untested antivirals in a desperate effort to help contain an outbreak that has been spreading rapidly in China and has appeared in more limited cases overseas…” (Hopkins/McKay, 1/27).

Additional coverage of efforts to find treatments and vaccines for the novel coronavirus is available from Bloomberg and Science.

Its already here, there’s no way that there isn’t this shit hasn’t spread like crazy. Especially since the fatality rate isn’t that high and people wouldn’t have been looking for it prior to China announcing it.

Thing to remember, China is likely underreporting cases.

This could be for a lot of reasons, from a lack of test kits available nationwide, to lack of reporting outside of major cities, to people refusing to go to the doctor, to people dying of other causes before WuFlu gets them, to executions of people suspected of inciting panic.

What's really going to get them is the lack of supplies in the quarantined areas. People living in Hubei province buy their food fresh each day. There are still planes going in and out, none of them capable of providing enough food to cover the 6 million people left there. Wildlife and game trade is forbidden and strictly enforced, cities had 4 - 5 days food supply on hand average at the start of this. I suspect most of what's being transported in is medical supplies and specialists. While there are still roads leading into the province, there are no functional ones going into Wuhan.

Fighting this disease malnourished is going to be a kick in the dick. While basic prevention techniques may stop this from becoming Spanish Flu, there's systemic frailty to worry about. I see a lot of it.

I don't pretend this is anything other than quick and sloppy. The curve still encourages me.

I bet with the actual statistics and not the ones the Chinese government is comfortable offering up I bet that shit would look more like a J curve. Now that its confirmed China is choosing to handle this problem without the aid of the CDC and various other health organizations its not so encouraging to me.

Is ASU a good school?
Lol no. Stole this from Reddit, the president of ASU is a truly exceptional individual. I’d feel really amazing knowing he’s in charge of my health and well being at college. Better not get sick kids, more than 2 absences you’re automatically dropped from the class! 673CD608-A881-401F-BC0B-D72CE04DEE28.jpeg 4836F642-5432-49D9-8A21-D119537E1308.jpeg

Don't worry, we have chinks too. We have Cleveland State, CASE Western, and Asia Plaza. I'm surprised we haven't had anything pop up yet.

Everything was fun and lol until i caught the sniffles !

I guess i will not play cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal and the FF7 remake (You've got the priorities, son, FF7 was allways overrated anyways.)

I hope part of my german and north european genes will not let me down ad allow me to use X for Doubt when Death comes !

Press "F" for me.
May Corona-Chan be swift and merciful.

Great timing for an unknown infection in my lungs. I don't live near any suspected cases but...

Not one person in a mask. I rocked a surgical mask into the grocery store. Warned people that I'm sick and to use hand sanitizer frequently.

The cashier didnt even use hand sanitizer after she was done with me. I prompted her to use some so that the next people in line wouldn't get anything.

You'd think I was a fucking terrorist. I wasn't wearing a full face P100 gas mask. I was using a surgical mask, which is to prevent the spread of anything that I might have, dumbfuck.

Yeah I know it's already here, there isn't a cure and I live in an area with a high elderly population. While it's not going to hit us as kill us all. It's going to fuck things up in my direct area. My hospital plans on treating it like Ebola, basically any cases your going to get quarantined with supportive care until it's out of your system. We rarely see any quarantine cases but we're outside of a city with a well traveled airport. All it takes is one jack ass going to the suburb area spreading the wu flu and surprise surprise well have more patients than beds. We only see maybe 10 to 20 quarantine cases a year so we only stock on quarantine stuff for bare minimum. Basically we could feasibly hand maybe 50 cases in a sitting if we use all our supplies...but because the town the hospital in is sort of were the elderly go to retire and because being old is a risk factor to possibly dying of some random complication, they're going to need to go to the hospital.
