Apparently, NBCUniversal is splitting most of their cable channels off to a separate company (except Bravo because that's just a program farm for Peacock) called Versant. The other channels with the peacock there will have it axed but this is the only one needing a name change, and it sounds like a fucking Windows program from the mid 2000s....ironic cause the channel started out as a Microsoft/NBC joint venture.

More than just the logo, they are giving interiors the shitty prison design and have been really fucking over long time staff in favor of newer, younger staff to save money for awhile. Absolute shit show

The font already changed about ten years ago, it was subtle but noticeable if you pay attention. I'm not really sure who Cracker Barrel's audience is now. I remember in high school people my age were legit excited for one coming to town and the billboards are still everywhere but I'm not sure who it's for anymore. They used to have fold-out US maps marking every location but they haven't done that in at least since COVID.

Given MSNBC had the NBC logo on it and was more associated with NBC than with Microsoft (looks like Microsoft sold their share to NBC Universal entirely in 2005) "MS Now" seems like taking the wrong part of the name. OK, so Comcast keeps the NBC logo, fine, but it would be retarded not to let them keep the name (Microsoft was okay with NBC Universal keeping the name) and even Johnson & Johnson didn't force the Johnson's Baby line to change names when they spun off that arm of the company. (Some places share brands indefinitely--Purina dog food and Purina Mills plants haven't been part of the same company since the 1980s).

Give it another ten years and they'll just be called "Barrel" with a location on every commercial strip like half a dozen other overpriced upscale brunch places.

I don't mind the modern Windows UI (up to Windows 10, 11 is a different story) but I'm still butthurt over how it's nearly impossible to get a classic/2k theme on 10 without installing sketchy shit or breaking a million things.

This was perfection.

The new Alfons Åberg/Alfie Atkins series is so uncharacteristically clean that I'll mention it here. I understand they wanted to brighten up some of the dingy colours from the old series, and I even understand (though STRONGLY disagree with) why Alfons gifts his father a generic bowl instead of the original ashtray. But if they wanted to improve the overall look of it, they could have kept the new bright colours but hand-drawn it, or added some of the photocollage style of the book illustrations. If the characters were removed from the scenes, I don't think I'd guess that it's Alfons. I guess the tiny bit of effort that would have required would have been inordinately expensive. Does anyone know if Pappa Åberg still smokes a pipe in new editions of the books?

Chinese cars already look and feel like soulless machines because they're all copycats of Teslas, from the the smooth and "aerodynamic" exteriors to their minimalist interiors that have a GIANT INFOTAINMENT SCREEN that controls most of the car, they have very few physical controls, and some cars don't even have an instrument panel display.

One example of a Chinese car getting worse with a redesign is the 2nd generation XPeng P7, which made the outsides more techy and edgy, and XPeng doubled down on the amount of tech in the interior:

One of the things that I didn't like about Yoshi's Island DS instinctively but didn't really grasp until later is the inconsistent art style. It really looks off-putting to have line drawings with flat colors then have a vector drawing like the present.

Oh wow, that takes me back. Motherfucking Alfons. I don't find the redesign that bad, the art always felt kind of weird to me. We read the books in elementary and i always thought Alfons looked remarkably like the one kid in class that got bullied to death by everyone, i might've even called him Alfons on occassion :story: Total blast from the past.

Fuck it, it’s already been said but it’s worth repeating: Intracity is king! To the cross goes minimalism, to the pyre goes modernism, to the bonfire goes the internet irony. To my sanity goes the ability to drink a loaf of bread!

Same. The kangaroo looked especially bad. The game wasn't good in general but most of the new art looking like cheap Flash crap you'd see on Newgrounds didn't help.

Came across this coal redesign of Kokichi Ouma from Danganronpa V3 on Tumblr (gee, how obvious) and I have a lot to say.
For context, here's the original design:
1774150090189.png

I'll just put my thoughts into points:

- The color palette in the redesign looks like ass, just using the same shade of purple slightly pushed up or down the scale doesn't make a color palette good.
- The ahoge feels necessary and adds to the visual clutter.
- Why the heart motif?
- The big eyebrows look stupid.
- Feels like it comes out of a Fangan and not the actual games.
- Keeping the cape in his design messes with his silhouette.
- It could just be me analyzing things too deep, but his palette being relatively simple and plain plays into his theme of being a lying little shithead.

Overall, it sucks shit. Fuck Danganronpa.

Saw the dogshit Mr Pibb redesign recently.

Like, the newest one looks so fucking ass and soulless compared to the Xtra or original design

I just noticed that the face buttons on the PS5 DualSense controller are missing their colors.

Here's the controller:

And here's how the face buttons appeared on prior DualShock controllers:

Why, Sony, would you remove a simple distinguishing feature?

This is objectively a bad design. When designing a character you usually want to direct the viewer's eyes towards their face. The original design does this by making his face nearly pale white while his cap and the collar of his cape are black. The redesign ruins this by adding to many oversaturated colors in places where they don't belong, like his cape and boots.
