On the furthest point of an afternoon's hike in a dry wilderness area.

A long hike or an overnighter, you'd have spare clothes and probably some wipes packed with you. In the woods or near water, you could do a much better cleanup.

This is a day trip so you don't have a change of clothes, and all your water is earmarked for drinking. Now you have to walk the entire way back with an uncomfortable ass, as well as whatever condition caused the poop in the first place. If you were able to mostly clean it by removing your undies, you would have the constant fear it would happen again and wipe out your pants next time.

There's no way to get back except by walking, which makes it worse than pooping in a vehicle where you can at least remain still and reduce the chafing.
