It's the final call, say scientists, the most extensive warning yet on the risks of rising global temperatures.
Their dramatic report on keeping that rise under 1.5 degrees C says the world is now completely off track, heading instead towards 3C.
Keeping to the preferred target of 1.5C above pre-industrial levels will mean "rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society".
It will be hugely expensive - but the window of opportunity remains open.
After three years of research and a week of haggling between scientists and government officials at a meeting in South Korea, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has issued a special report on the impact of global warming of 1.5C.

Not only that, but it makes any further attempts by western first-world nations to cut down on our emissions a moot point when they're going to do nothing save laugh at us for hamstringing ourselves for nothing while throwing plastic into the ocean and smogging up their industrial areas so badly you'd think you were in Silent Hill.
This, and the lack of basic worker's rights laws are the reason China is the #1 mass producer of consumer goods.

Even the most liberal soy boy moron can understand this basic concept even if they don't want to admit it as they purchase a new Iphone and Nintendo Switch.

North America and Europe have industrialized nations which leave a relatively small footprint. Africa isn't industrialized at all, and they still produce an absolutely disproportionate amount of pollution. You're blaming industrialization when the cold hard truth is that certain people are the ones destroying the planet, and not the boogieman of industrialization. No matter how much civilization improves, the rats in those places will continue to have their populations explode and will continue to destroy the world around them, like they always have.
I guess the solution is to modernize those countries, isn't it?
What exactly do you put in the words "sustainable future"
Because personal experience is it usually means some anti capitalist bullshit wrapped under the guise of environmental concerns
Using reusable energy sources that don't harm the environment as much. Discarding of our waste properly. And as other people have mentioned, this doesn't just apply to first world nations. Countries like China seem to not give a fuck about carbon emissions(or respecting the environment general).
I already outlined the drastic action, causing our own orbital or geothermic smokescreens instead of waiting for it to happen naturally. Scaling back our industrial society simply isn't going to happen and wouldn't work anyways, we need more industry & not less.

Keep in mind that we're not even close to world high temperatures(we're still middling up out of an Ice Age) and that carbon-based life in general has actually thrived in hotter temperatures, specifically the spread of mammals & birds during the Eocene period post-dinosaurs, where average world temperature was 8 degrees hotter C° and jungles/rainforests were even better off than they are now. There's a strong case for a healthy, hotter world. It would be different than today, but not necessarily worse off.
It wouldn't be the end of the world, but whay about us? How livable will it be for us, how many people will die?

Nice attempt to play to the white guilt crowd. Screaming racism means you have no argument.
People like you have proposed solutions which are nothing but accelerationism. By forcing more regulation on the non-offenders and protecting the perpetrators you're making the rest of the world more reliant on planet-destroying practices and empowering those who are doing causing the problems. When someone is destroying something that is yours, you punish them. If people get in your way, they should be destroyed too.
You're just as guilty as the Chinese in the planets destruction by shielding them from just criticism. You don't care about earth, you're just trying to signal how much you care to others to feel good about yourself.
Trying to use logic on a baizho? I should rate you :optimistic: for that one.

I personally think it's hilarious he wants to dial the clock back. I mean, we could live to the ripe old age of 40!

You guys are right, the industrial revolution is extremely gay and shitty and needs to go away. I mean shit things were great back in the 1700's. Look at George Washington, he was one of the wealthiest guys in the Americas so he could afford the best stuff. I mean he got to shit in a clay pot, got small pox once, had no teeth, and died at 65 of a cold...

This sounds suspiciously like an excerpt from an Amish religion recruiting campaign on a liberal college campus.
I am sorry you feel that way, English.

My point is that claiming to care is not a replacement for actual action. You cannot boo-hoo about global warming while watching movies where they turn an entire warehouse into a freezer to get some condensation when actors breath because it looks better on camera. The people so worried about this are having Amazon package a tin of tea in a giant box and having them delivered on a big truck every single day. They are the people getting small food deliveries a few times per week because that is more convenient than shopping or a once per week delivery (whether packaging can be recycled or not, it is still very wasteful). Everything we do in the good parts of the world is wasteful and polluting.

This is all about smug people wanting to feel good for "caring" about and "supporting" things. If people were serious, they would not be going to Disney, cruises, or any distant vacation. They would set air conditioning to 78F/25.5C like the government recommends. They would support building new larger more efficient buildings in place of single family homes and other multifamily units. Who does any of that though?

I'm suspicious because I want to know if the raw data is available. It's amazing how fast that disappears with climate change.

Also, when are we going to increase the number of weather stations in colder environments? During the Cold War both the US and Russia had spy stations up near the artic circle that had a cover story of being weather stations. Afterwards large numbers of them were shuttered, amazingly the same time they were shut down we had a sudden spike of average temperatures.

To be perfectly clear, when somebody is telling me I need to live as a substinence farmer, while they live in a palace, I'm not going to take them seriously.

"Do as I command, not as I do" is liberal doctrine. They just use global warming as another facet to try to control your life and another way to give the away US to foreign powers.

@Tranhuviya, I'm sorry this conversation isn't going the way you want, but dropping 'dumb' ratings on everyone's posts when they voice criticism isn't going to make us any more convinced.

I mean, shit, we get that from the SJWs as is.

At least you're not denying the problem at hand. That's all I can really ask for here. Whether or not we agree on the solution is another matter.

I'm guessing that also includes not wanting a final solution either.

Also just wanted to add in that I'm behind the idea of cloud seeding tech
( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_seeding ) for helping cool stuff down.

I question whether there's a problem at all, based on:

The frankly dishonest behavior of certain 'climate scientists', particularly Michael Mann
The clear current of social justice and socialism running through places like the IPCC (reference the quote I posted, among others)
The refusal to address actual polluters, as opposed to countries which have been reducing their carbon output.

So yeah, I've got some issues with the big 'OMG GLOBAL WARMENING IS COMING' schtick.

This just seems like it has the potential to go so very wrong. Along with the reflectors in space. Cooler temps kill quicker than hotter temps.
Any solution that is just more interference to try and bandage up the problem without fixing the root cause is just going to cause more problems. It's feel good bullshit pushed by people too spineless to go after China and India.

And while the world blames the USA and screeches at Trump, India and China have shit up half the globe with pollution to an extent greater than the US ever has.

But hey.... #FUCKTRUMP #REJOINPARISCLIMATE amirite?
It's also ignoring human nature that poor people in developing and third world countries aspire to live like first world westerners (Eat more meat, own a vehicle, go on foreign holidays, etc) and pretty much everyone wants to improve their standard of living not decrease it so it's going to get worse over time.

I'm sick of environmentalists saying we need a carbon tax to help solve it like a modern day sin tax or something.

The only way I can see people starting to care is if scientists find some way to extend human life dramatically, then rich people will suddenly become concerned about the distant future.
