It's the final call, say scientists, the most extensive warning yet on the risks of rising global temperatures.
Their dramatic report on keeping that rise under 1.5 degrees C says the world is now completely off track, heading instead towards 3C.
Keeping to the preferred target of 1.5C above pre-industrial levels will mean "rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society".
It will be hugely expensive - but the window of opportunity remains open.
After three years of research and a week of haggling between scientists and government officials at a meeting in South Korea, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has issued a special report on the impact of global warming of 1.5C.

And while the world blames the USA and screeches at Trump, India and China have shit up half the globe with pollution to an extent greater than the US ever has.

But hey.... #FUCKTRUMP #REJOINPARISCLIMATE amirite?

The particular conference the article is about also cals for "unprecedented transitions in all aspects of society" which one reporter interpreted as "The world's top scientists just gave rigorous backing to systematically dismantle capitalism as a key requirement to maintaining civilization and a habitable planet."

Yeah.. I see the superpowers doing not nearly enough to solve this issue because the survival of the human race is nothing compared to wasting shekels on weapons of mass destruction. They're all selfish retards.
And regular people don't seem to care either. You don't care about global warming, or you think it's all a hoax? Fuck you, you're a selfish retard. Who cares if we have to spend trillions of dollars, if it's all to save the human race?

I do care, but introducing something to curb the immense population and pollution of India and China is considered "unethical" and "racist"

(Sorry for double post, dont know how to quote on edited posts)
We don't necessarily need to dismantle capitalism. We just need to direct markets towards more sustainable energy sources/consumer products/etc. And being awarded millions of dollars by a big company/the government would be a great initiative for smaller companies to develop carbon trapping technology.
Also, consumers need to stop eating so much beef and choose to spend their money on sustainable products. We don't necessarily need communism.

Well, that's your problem if you're afraid of being called racist.
Oh no this is even worse than the last dozen times Earth was dying tomorrow!
Well, no downsides to creating a sustainable future, anyways.

Call me when something bad actually happens.

Technology moves too fast for any of this to matter.

everybody else
Who are you talking about? Insects? Horses?

It's been discussed before, but rolling back the Industrial Age is fucking stupid when the earth was already warming before the Industrial Revolution. It's as stupid as thinking that cutting fun-money & saving more is going to work, when your fucking shit income is the actual problem; if the world temperature needs to drop, then we need to block out the sun in bigger chunks of time. We can either build expensive orbital mirrors, or drop a nuke in Yosemite. Driving Priuses isn't going to cut it.

Thats all very fine but neither i nor the reporter i quoted said communism was the solution.

Not ok - having white babies in the 1st world
Ok - having 10 brown babies in a shithole 3rd world, pissing and shitting in streams making aquifers Biohazards

Sorry, hyperbole. Dismantling capitalism sounds just as bad.

The earth's already been warming, but we accelerated it. We can reverse it. It'll take drastic action, but that's what it takes. And a rise in temperature is a real danger to humanity and wildlife; it's better to do something with the risk of failing than to do nothing at all.

What exactly do you put in the words "sustainable future"
Because personal experience is it usually means some anti capitalist bullshit wrapped under the guise of environmental concerns

I already outlined the drastic action, causing our own orbital or geothermic smokescreens instead of waiting for it to happen naturally. Scaling back our industrial society simply isn't going to happen and wouldn't work anyways, we need more industry & not less.

Keep in mind that we're not even close to world high temperatures(we're still middling up out of an Ice Age) and that carbon-based life in general has actually thrived in hotter temperatures, specifically the spread of mammals & birds during the Eocene period post-dinosaurs, where average world temperature was 8 degrees hotter C° and jungles/rainforests were even better off than they are now. There's a strong case for a healthy, hotter world. It would be different than today, but not necessarily worse off.
