This might not be strictly wood working, but what I'm struggling to come up with ideas for involves wood, so here I am.
Back before my gf moved in, I had put together an old printer cart with a piece of pine board to add some width, and attached two 32" TVs with monitor mounts to it. It was just enough room for us to fit our PS4s on there, and when we'd hang out it let us sit on the couch together and play. During the week when we were apart I could roll it into another room out of the way. After she moved in and we were trying to make room we ended up giving the abomination to her godmother, who along with her husband was actually really excited about getting the mobile cart with the TVs attached. Was cool something I threw together was appreciated like that.
I've been wanting to go back to us playing together on the couch like that, but something like that cart is just too cumbersome for the house. I've been trying to think about how I'd put together something that would be more permanent, and so far the best I've got is a coffee table that would have a hinged top. Screens would be mounted to the bottom of the table top, and the top would be secured upright. Originally I was planning on using 32" televisions, but after I did the math on it, I was going to end up with something that was about 5 foot long, which wouldn't be ideal for my sofa due to it having a chase meaning it wouldn't be centered in front of the sofa. I looked into some 27" screens, but a combination of feeling like that's too small plus kinda wanting to find 27" TVs ( for inputs, streaming, etc) rather than 27" monitors (shit speakers if at all, single HDMI input, etc). Now I'm trying to think on alternative methods to mounting the TVs and was hoping to get some ideas. Maybe rather than directly attaching to the lid, mounts/arms fold into the table and are raised up/turned to face the couch? I just can't think of what kind of mechanism I'd use for it.
