I often think about returning to Return To Castle Wolfenstein. I remember loving it when I was younger (although I eventually ragequit on a particular section I can't remember).

I hate Youngblood but Old Blood and New Order are great and New Colossus isn't that bad.

I didn't mind New Order too much.
I actually just wanted the opportunity to shit talk Bethesda. Dishonored is still one of the absolute worst fucking games I have ever played and I never got the Fallout fanboyism, so seeing the Bethesda logo on Wolfenstein left an immediate bad taste in my mouth. Even fucking DOOM wasn't that good.

I didn't mind New Order too much.

Bethesda Fallout games aren't canon and aren't true Fallout games, so you shouldn't judge the franchise too much by them. As for Dishonored, I think the first one was decent but second one definitely blew ass. Same deal with nu-Doom, 2016 was great but Eternal was extremely overrated.

RTCW was my jam back in the day! The enemies were bullet sponges though, especially the ones in the crypt.

A vague memory I have is being scared of the Lopers so much that I used to turn on cheats in the lab levels just so they don't jump at me.

And also, that one level that starts with the plane taking off in the distance is so damn loud, I hated that.

I just want to say this: Fuck MachineGames. They ruined what was a pretty cool concept of Nazis winning with their retardation in handling the concept. It only got worse in the second game and then we got Young Blood. What a bunch of fuckups, that said RtCW is still the best entry, even all these years later.

You need to hammer it into normies heads, otherwise they will get confused. They don't want to see the real life where a person could be a good husband, a kind father, a good neighbour, but kill people at his work by truckloads every day because that's what the government decided. Normies get in stupor by such images, they need a clear carboard cuts of bad guys. Or, god forbid, you show that people were willing to sell their neighbours for small gains, that will get normie head really spinning. No no no, it's baddie super-nazi super-SS always in full dress parade uniforms, screaming and laughing like madmen all the time.

Makes perfect sense tbh, if you are occupying a country you'll be forced to rely on the local manpower to force the locals to comply. And KKK somewhat alligns with nazis in parts. You can elliminate the old KKK leadership and install your own, which will conviniently forget any discrepancies.

all the nu-wolfenstein games after rtcw look incredibly gay with a mix of fucked up cod-like gameplay mechanics that have no business being in a wolfenstein game and incredible levels of woke retardation by the designers. why does everything have to be elementary school level propaganda, no shit the nazis are le bad, the whole point of the game is to fucking shoot them.

I'm older than Wolf3D. Only watched my dad and uncle play it, though. When I was finally allowed on the 'puter, it was Duke3D and Quake. Growing up didn't care much for the slow/realistic Wolfs or the multiplayer one which my friends desperately tried to shill me (was still doing Q3A, UT and later UT2004, followed by TF2). New Order was pretty fun and I appreciate a lot of things it did*, even if I never finished it**. The rest I didn't care about. Old Blood reported as being too focused on stealth, Colossus had this disgusting, bulging-eyed sheboon in it along with a pregnant woman doing an akimbo bullet time dive, and Youngblood... yeah.

*wasn't really a fan of all the kike glazing, but BJ trying to speak Polish was cute.
**The immediate beginning of the level after you escape the moon base where you're stuck in a corner with like 5 enemies shooting at you. I loaded in with 25 health which would immediately get me killed, so I stopped.

I want to say it was when the game starts throwing these guys at you in large groups

but I also recall save-scumming my way through a stealth section either in a town or a military base, although there's a chance I'm getting that confused with The New Order because there was a couple parts of that that really pissed me off.

I agree with that. It has that Raven soul in it and they did the best with what they could. TOB and TNO were my first Wolf games. Good idea to keep it on your PC since who knows when it'll ever get back on steam or any other storefront. No game should be resigned to that fate, especially not a decent-enough game like Wolf2009.

Man, Return to Castle Wolfenstein was my bread and butter back in the day. Had to look up that intro again and realised that's Peter Renaday (whose voice would be forever imprinted on me years later as he played Duncan in Dragon Age Origins) voicing the monk/wizard/whatever that imprisons Heinrich. Cool discovery.

Some people like to think he's Corvus, which I think is a fun idea.

I remember playing The Old Blood when that came out but never got around to the new trilogy proper. Heard the second game was full of niggers and the third one doesn't even star the BJ lord himself, but that the first game (The New Order?) is still good. Should give that one a whirl some day.

TOB is good, and I think it's good that it was the first one you played since imo it works better than TNO as an introduction to the MG timeline both as a game and story. The problem with TNC is that it really feels like the beginning of when all this crap started to pop up in games. They retcon/ruin characters from the past games for the sake of politics (Max Hass, Bombate especially, BJ's Father) and introduce new ones that are arguably the worst characters in their games (Grace & Horton). But it's not nearly as bad as what was to come from that point onward, but take of that what you will.

TNO is still good and is worth a shot.

Rtcw is the best, it really does feel like playing kelleys heroes or guns of the navarone.
Blade of agony is second best, I don't care if it's a mod, I consider it canon
Everything else is okay. I have issues with the machinegames ones, they're too big and too technologically complicated for 6-7 hour single player shooters with cutscenes (TNO is 45 GB, give me a fucking break). Wolf 2009 is very mid, I like it's gimmicks but it just feels like COD SP with magic bullshit, not like rtcw. Wolf3d desperately needs mouse aim. I haven't played the 80s ones.

RTCW's biggest issue for me is the movement speed (yeah, yeah) since it feels a little too slippery and some of its levels feel based around the walking speed instead of the running speed. But if you don't use the run speed you will get shredded.

For the compliant at TNO's size, well blame IDTech5 for that one and Carmack's insistence on mega textures. I still love IDTech5 though.

After much consideration I found out why the new Wolfenstein games suck so much and it's a shared thing among all of them.

No. This one really isn't on Beth for once, as much as it would easily explain everything. Besides, if FO4 was anything to go off of I doubt 2017 Beth would be so blatant with political stuff. It really is just a case of a developer having scored twice and then dropping the ball.

Maybe I just haven't played it in a while but I don't really get a lot of the hate for the stealth level. Is it unnecessary? Yes. Impossible? No, they literally give you a map in the journal. And these are people saying "modern gamurs cant read"

none of the new games have manual saves so it was probably RTCW. Guessing Deathshead's playground was the point you're taking about since that level was the one where I started save spamming too.

Fair choice, I'd say maybe TNO would be mine instead but RTCW is definitely 2nd or 3rd. For sure one of the best half-likes ever made, I'd say maybe even better than half-life 1.
