It boils down to a few reasons:
1) It was very mainstream from the get go, made for MTV basically.
2) It was popular with the kids, and popular things are always bad.
3) hair metal/"true" metal fans were grumpy that their pure metal was put into stasis in the 90s
4) the lyrics were even more angsty than grunge

This adds up to people hating the mall goths for whatever reason. Nu-metal was fun, I always liked it.

The sound suffered from oversaturation and many of the bands sound incredibly similar. Its relation to cringy nigger music did not help things, there's a couple bands like PolkaDotCadaver or Dog fashion disco that i think keep a unique sound while retaining the numetal sound but they are few and far in between the forgettable wigger nonsense.

If a painter paints a highly detailed and realistic painting of a pile of shit the technique might be impressive but it's still a pile of shit.

Everything that gets really popular really quick gets hated.
It had nothing to do with the music itself because when you ask people to actually tell you why they dislike it, they can't give you anything substantial.

To me, nu-metal was the last time hard rock had any personality, it was fresh and inventive, it didn't just rehash the styles of previous generations of musicians.
Some great stuff has been made in the short period nu-metal was popular and listening to it now, without the overexposure, you can appreciate the artistry.

Because the lowest common denominator listened to it. As an old nigger who was in high school when it got big, only stoners and jocks listened to some retard talk about shoving cookies up people's asses. Nu-metal fans also couldn't handle any other style of music. Liked bumping Rain Dogs out of your shitty car your parents let you drive to school?
