Why is the word "Constroy" never used? - Shouldn't it be the antonym to "destroy"?

Destruct was originally a malapropism for destroy, arising from the word destruction. It was popularised by Mission Impossible in the 60s - you didn't really ever hear it before then, though I think there are a few one-off examples here and there. The only reason we reborrowed the word construct from Latin is because the version of it that came down to us directly, construe, took on a different meaning.
