My autistic son wants an Xbox 360 for Flag Day. I am aware that Xbox is a console brand, but stumped on what 360 refers to.

Serious answer;

Because Microsoft's marketing department decided "Xbox 2" would make it sound like it was somehow less advanced than "Playstation 3." Thus the Xbox series branding has been doomed to be retarded bullshit forevermore.

Because when you see it, you want to do a 360 and run the other way to get a PS triple to be ballin' !

Serious Answer: From what I remember it was in part because they wanted it to be backwards compatible with original Xbox games but that fell through at some point after the name was decided on.

If you did a 360 you'd run in the same direction tho

I always thought I was because the 360 would work standing up or laying down as well but that might be designers following after marketers

This is definitely the reason and it's stupid because the Xbox brand was established to be something more powerful than the other consoles, so an "Xbox 2" should have stacked up fine against "Playstation 3" because yeah, it's 2, but it's XBOX 2!

Now here's a crazy idea.

What if…

What if, when you released a new video game console…

you gave it a new name?

One that wasn't based on any previous names for consoles made by the same company?

Crazy, I know,.

Xbox wants to be the most confusing game console naming ever. Now it's the new Xbox is called Series for crying out loud.

I think it is one of those ninteldo machines that plays electric computer games, like if you took backgammon or parcheesi and put it on a television screen, some kind of virtual game like that.
