The funny thing is that I’m pretty sure that in early Batman comics Batman DID kill criminals (iirc there is an infamous panel of Batman dropkicking a gangster and breaking his neck). The “no kill rule” just came about because silver age comics had to be massively sanitized in order to be published and hippies just kept the rule.
