Serious (🧩) answer? Surströmming was created by mistake during a time when people mainly preserved meat by salting. There was a shortage of salt in the early 16th century and the fish producers decided to conserve salt by using less of it in the preservation process, which caused the fish to start fermenting because it was incompletely preserved. Most people threw the rotting fish out but the poor had nothing else to eat, so they tried to suppress the smell by eating it in a sandwich with other vegetables and washing it down with alcohol. Eventually, surströmming became a traditional food because of its historical significance as a famine food and not its culinary qualities.

Barely anyone eats it nowadays, and even if they do, it's...
I have no idea why. Europeans eat a lot of nasty shit it seems. I have heard British food isn't that great either. The fucking frogs eat snails. They consider that shit a delicacy. Fucking retards. They are eating shit people put in Aquariums in real countries. It's still not as bad as the rice niggers in Asia. Have you ever seen a food market over there? You can't tell if it's a pet store or a place to buy food. The only positive thing I can say is at least the stuff they eat is super fresh. Taken right out of the tank and killed for your dining pleasure.

I have seen people eat that in YouTube videos. They recommend holding the can under water to open it. This contains the stench and keeps the gas and juices from the can from splattering all over the place. I have heard the horror stories about that. People's houses stinking for days. Though I have heard people say when you prepare it and eat it's not that bad. But I still wouldn't do it. Most of your sense of taste is smell. If it smells bad it will probably taste bad.

It's an acquired taste I guess.

I will stick to burgers pizza and spaghetti.

So they can brag about it. I assume. It's like people who eat extremely spicy stuff. The things which have no actual flavor and just exists to commit a holocaust against your entire body. Do they actually enjoy it? I fucking doubt it. But I'm sure all of you know at least one person who does it and it's so they can look cool.
