Why do mosquitos exist?

They are, sadly, an extremely important part of the foodchain just because of the sheer number of them. The same reason nothing else can achieve their numbers is the same reason they are so annoying; the blood drinking thing. Their ability to drink blood gives them a ridiculous resource advantage over other insects, particularly the iron content. Tons of other creatures such as birds, bats, and large insects would starve without them because just nothing else can reproduce that fast.

we could also just genocide the species that feed on human blood and leave the rest<
 
I don't know how people way back in history dealt with mosquitos and other bugs every minute of every day. They didn't have screens. They obviously didn't have windows unless they were rich. All day, every day. How were they not covered in bites? Why isn't every other poem put to record not about intense hatred for bugs?

Basil. I have one I regularly water and it does the job pretty well, especially since mosquitoes seem to bite me more than anybody else when I stay out of my house.
