From my own observations, it seems as though most of the people who enjoy Firefly are ultra-lefties and that most, if not all ultra-lefties enjoy Firefly. A lot of them even 'identify as Browncoats', because it's just not a leftist fandom without that kind of shit.
In case you don't know what I'm talking about, Firefly was a freakishly well-produced Fox television scifi-western series based on Trigun/Cowboy Bebop/Outlaw Star that gained the majority of its cult following after Fox cancelled it right in the middle of the story. There's a lot more to it, but the important thing to know about Firefly in this context is that it's entire plot and message is anti-globalism and shouts it from the rooftops at every possible opportunity. Going by the show's lore, being a "Browncoat" means to be anti-globalist to the point that you would gladly die in a war for independence to fight against the formation of one giant empire.
Do they forgive the ocean of anti-globalism just because there's an interracial couple in the main cast? Is it because it shamelessly glorifies whoredom? Is it because the hero girl with superpowers is (artificially) severely autistic? Surely those tidbits can't override the show's entire premise for them, especially after the movie. After all, they'd riot if they found out Malcolm is canonically homophobic/racist/troonsphobic/some other stupid, inconsequential bullshit.
