Why do FTMs "Pass" easier than MTFs?

Probably a retarded question but I've been pondering it for like an hour and want to see what other people think.

There are two troons that I know of in my apartment complex, one MTF and one FTM. They've both put in considerable effort to actually pass (instead of just saying they're the opposite gender and then not presenting as such at all), and while the MTF can still be clocked despite his best efforts, the FTM actually reads as a dude until I remember. They're fairly tall already and hit the gym often, so that's probably part of it.

I feel like this phenomenon is common in trans celebrities too. If I passed Chella Man, Chaz Bono, or Laith Ashley in the streets I'd probably just think they were feminine men, but the famous MTFs like Laverne Cox or Dylan Mulvaney still just look like men.

Testosterone permanently deepens your voice. FTMs don't need to do the goofy voice training nonsense that MTFs do.
Half right. Testosterone thickens the vocal cords, and women have smaller necks, so there's nowhere for them to grow. This produces the distinctive FtM frog voice.

Another reason is men's clothing is a lot more androgynous in its physical effects...a dude in a skirt or womens' jeans is going to stand out immediately while a chick in some baggy jeans and a sweatshirt can conceal it a lot easier.

People ignore men more than women. We all have different gender cues. A lot of trying to pass is just signally these. With clothes, hair, make up, tits/lack of, physic and so forth. Our brains aren't designed to carefully look at everything. So you'll just get some cues without paying much attention that it's a male and then ignore them.

Whereas if you get cues it's female, you'll focus more on them. This is when the uncanny valley effect happens and you see it's just superficial markers but the absolute maleness is there.

Men do this because they're always down to check out. If there's some bad signals, like fat gross pig, they'll still focus to observe the horror. Women will tend to only focus in on men if they get a strong attractive marker. Such as they're tall, fit, well dressed ect.

Women will also check out other women because they're competition. Men don't think of other men the same way. Just ignore them and focus on the women. Unless it's jacked dudes who want to nerd out about each others muscles.

TBH, I think it's also because it feels a lot less threatening.

You're not as much on your guard when a woman tries to portray themselves as a man. It does not feel as threatening and perverted as a man trying to pass themselves as a woman. You probably would give the benefit of the doubt to the FTM. Whereas you would never ever engage with a "woman" you think/know is a tranny.

From my own experience though, they don't really pass unless they have facial hairs. And even then. I remember this girl I met abroad who was from the same country as mine. She was a barmaid, and we got talking. She was portraying herself as a man (baggy clothes, cap, etc), but I really did not clock it right away. I just thought she was into the gangsta life or something, Only when she corrected me on pronouns at some point did I figure it out.

And I did not care, she was obviously a lesbian, with many girls competing for her attention. Now, had it been the other way around, I would have never let a man in a dress tell me what pronouns to use or handle my drink.

Half right. Despite people calling them cords, humans have vocal folds. I'll never understand where "cords" comes from, they look absolutely nothing like cords.
