Why do anime characters look white?

Round eyes are used to show emotion and expression

If they were squinty eyed they would all just look like this:

Anime style was inspired buy the old Disney films. And much like Disney it has evolved. For better or worse is up to you to decide. But I'm not a huge fan of some of the newer art styles.

Literally the only Japanese guy who thinks this, and I doubt he really does.

Male characters almost never have the kitty muzzle. Which ones do? It's the clue.

Regardless, the point being made by the "They look white" people is that anime characters almost never look Japanese, only ones who are objects of mockery or reverence, like drunks or monks. The rest look more like (but not like) white people.

That's almost every place. In Africa they sell skin brightening cream. In India lighter skinned jeets are considered more attractive. Pretty much every traditional chinese beauty is described as being pale. Jap geishas used white skin powder, and the traditional beauty is a paleskinned lady with black hair (they even have those little bamboo parasols prevent tanning). Arabs loved the slav slaves they got from the caucasus or russia (azov was a major slave entrepot). Romans loved the pale blonde germanic slaves. To the point blonde hair was associated with prostitution.

Can't find the picture but it was a sign for a thia brothel. The white girl was the most expensive, the brown girl the cheapest.

Traditionally, lighter skin meant you were rich enough to sit on your ass all day while your sunburnt servants did everything for you.

I'm happy to say that they're getting better at it. For anyone who cares, there are some mangas that portray Americans specifically really well. The two that I know of are...
Drunk Bullet, which is a comedy about an alcoholic WWI soldier who returns to America and is shocked by prohibition.
Night Light Hounds, which puts a supernatural twist on 1920s Chicago mobsters. Even the artwork clearly has a distinct American influence.

Basically yeah. It's not just the skin too (even if you bleach your skin you will never get pink undertones) but also the facial structure too. Many anime chars either look white or some mix of HAPA with mostly white features.

Sorta makes sense too. Their whole beauty standard is to look as white as possible. That's why asian women get rhinoplastys to get a more european nose, make their eyes not monolid, skin bleach, etc.
