Why are Americans so dumb to think the term "White" means a group of people and not just a skin colour. "White" countries include tens of thousands of different cultures and creeds.

Both sides are guilty of this, saying you want a "White" ethno-state is just as bumfuck retarded as saying being "White" is a privilege I know it's hard for Americans to envision but places with unique and longer histories than you exist.

There's a few reasons, but generally it all comes back to cultural norms. How they view, judge and interact with people based on individual context is different than in Europe or India, but they also are so big as a country and so homogenous in many aspects of the overarching culture that they have very little relative awareness.

Personally I also think that the difference in English is crazy but people think I'm crazy when I try to explain it.

And to end my rambling I'd also say that the normative thinking has a big effect, I've noticed a lot of Americans like to reduce things to simple binaries and boxes, and instead of meeting someone and finding out if those binary rules and boxes apply, they assume they do until told otherwise. Basically many Americans seem to judge other people based on their own individual perception of that persons most base features and then seem demand/expect the person to meet those standards.

White is a thing here becase people of European extraction came here from all over the world and intermarried.
Many years ago groups self segregated based on their home countries but that really isn't a thing anymore.
In my case I know that one set of my great grandparents came from Ireland and supposedly there is some native American (feather Indian) on both sides of the family.
My wife knows even less about her family's ethnic background so white works for us.

The need for categorization and labels is a river that runs deep through part of our retarded monkey brains ("friend" and "enemy", "threat" and "boon", "family" and "outsider" etc.) due to humans being at their core a bunch of stupid tribalistic monkeys who have evolved to have big thunkful brains, but still have vestiges of that scared animal brain in there that needs to be able to make immediate snap judgments about something placed in front of them just in case shit gets real in a hurry. Simpler categorization allows for quicker judgments. One way we've contrived to deal with the constant mental "noise" of our brains assessing those surrounding us is to create fairly arbitrary categories into which we shunt what we see so we spend less time constantly fucking scrutinizing things and more time getting on with whatever the fuck we actually need to be doing that day.

There's a general subconscious idea in there that says "looks like me = is less inclined to kill me and take my stuff/rape my wife" which has steered a great deal of human society to date. As a species we seem to crave both a certain degree of commonality with others we perceive as being from "the same tribe" while also needing to categorize things like affiliation, rank, and such to mentally sort everything we see into boxes to ascertain things like "enemy/friend? superior/subordinate? safe/dangerous? useful/useless?"

Some people will swear up and down that they don't mind hearing a dozen different languages around them, but still get slightly tense when they hear communication going on that they are not party to ("are they talking about how to kill me and take my shit?" is the gist of what that lizard brain is thinking). Some people will say they take no issue with the presence of symbols and clothing that differ from their own but will still be slightly on guard when interacting with others bearing that symbology/garb ("is this person going to attack me for not being from their tribe?"). By now a lot of people are pretty good about turning down the mental volume on that and just getting on with their day. Some are not as good about that, some by choice.

When stress levels run high, it becomes a lot more difficult to tune that out as you're already physically primed for the presence of a threat and that lizard brain is constantly looking for the threat. Different language? Different skin? Different clothes? Different flag? Our brains are actually really, REALLY good at spotting differences, but what we do about those varies depending on a number of factors including socialization.
