Why can't I save unpublished threads?

I was making a thread and I ended up deleting my tab in fear of my family scolding me.
Why can't you save threads that haven't been published yet? Wouldn't this be especially important for threads about lolcows? I might just copy and paste the text onto another (private) website or application.
