I think maybe it resonates with more people nowadays than when the show came out it '98, since there are more people who are isolated, always online, and tech savvy than in the 90s. More people are capable of empathising with the protag now than in the past. As far as the tie in with the Farms- KF draws more unconventional individuals just in general. You need to do a bit of internet snooping or have peculiar interests (blue arms, anyone?) to end up here
