Because Shohei Ohtani is arguably the best player since Babe Ruth, and has imported a bunch of Japanese fans to the Dodgers fanbase.

The Japs love gooning to cartoon girls, but they're downright fanatical about baseball. The reason you don't see more Japanese players coming to the MLB os because they get more money and fame playing in Japan.

Chargers weebed out and doubled their fanbase overnight so the Dodgers wanted to try it too. There are at least 73 Chargers fans in LA now because of it.
