this is my personal favorite. guy who otherwise seems and looks pretty normal got a bit depressed during quarantine like most people did so this redditor buys his cousin a 5 dollar funko pop and tells him to show it to the camera and then puts him on blast, uploads his face onto reddit and announces on reddit that his cousin is autistic for upvotes and every comment is redditors talking to him not like he has autism but instead dehumanizing him into a drooling retard and complimenting him, his t-shirt and his toy. say what you want about us but even if you are autistic we will at least treat you like a human being

but yes this is why pops are popular. autism
There's a truly staggering amount of different funko pops around, mostly because they all look the same which makes them easier to manufacture. Men, especially autists, love to collect things. You get the idea.

They’re cheap so poorfags can easily collect them.

They’re incredibly simple-looking so autists won’t have a meltdown looking at them.

They’re widespread and prominently featured on YouTube/Twitch streams so consoomers and bandwagon hoppers can feel like they’re part of Popular Thing

Dirt poor autistic sheep are the perfect consumer base for these things

Easy gift to give - oh, this person likes X? I will just give her/him a funko pop!

They are cute (big head and oversized eyes), so have a very wide appeal.

I'm pretty sure they spawned from these "munny" vinyl figures that were a part of hip-hop culture where you just draw shit all over them. Remove creative agency and slap on neotonous features, boom.

Edit: I know this only because I still went to buy physical media at the time and thought they were gay

When you can't pony up the cash for a $500 anime fig with realistic tits and moldable panties you get the POP figures

Autists like Funko Pops because remember: autists have trouble understanding social queues and emotions. So the same face on each Funko Pop makes them feel comfortable and not need to worry about understanding the emotions on each character's face. It is enough that the template model dresses like the character they like. Nothing else is required as it becomes too frustrating for the brain of the autist. Combined with being priced cheaply, Funko Pops are easy, thoughtless gifts by family members.

Like others have said, they can make an easy gift if you know what show or series someone likes, since you can find a funko pop for virtually anything.

I've gotten three of them over the years as gifts. I wouldn't go out and buy one on my own, but I still enjoy receiving them as gifts. I've got a little Captain Kirk and Gorn on my dresser drawer like a proper womanchild, and I think they're cute.
