How can it be white men feel left out of anything in American society, let alone in the workplace? They are at the center of power in nearly every space. White men are the wealthiest, make the laws, set policy, and sustain exclusive power networks elevating themselves. They hold the most leadership positions and decision-making power in the U.S. (and globally), and they make up the majority of business executives at 67.8%, according to Zippia.

Many white people did indeed come from poverty and are descendants of poor immigrants who did hard labor. Still, they benefit every single day from the intentionally racist systems in America sustaining their privilege, while oppressing Black, indigenous, people of color (BIPOC). These systems were established to benefit the social construct of whiteness, where respect and access to opportunity, privilege, and safety is inherent to being white.

So, why are white men feeling left out of diversity, equity, and inclusion conversations, initiatives, and actions, when DEI impacts everyone? Perhaps DEI is most challenging for white men because it doesn’t center them, elevate them higher, nor forfeit them all of the power in any space. Not wanting to lose your power doesn’t make you a bad person, but the choices a white man makes to hold onto systems of power does perpetuate racism.

According to the White Men's Leadership Study, a study of white men and DEI, nearly 70% report feeling forgotten by DEI efforts. Feeling uncertain about whether DEI includes them is the main reason they either disengage or are not as committed to it. DEI does center belonging for all and empowers everyone, and it gives support and voice to the most vulnerable. Simply put, DEI works to level the playing field across industries, organizations, and society dominated by white men for centuries.

No one wants to feel disadvantaged, as if something is being taken away from them. Yet, consider how the following narratives coming from white men land for BIPOC, given the historical marginalization and oppression imposed on BIPOC.

• An engineer was enraged when he was told to cultivate an applicant pool with more diverse talent, even though a white man already interviewed with the knowledge and skills for the role.

• A leader was angered he was passed up for promotion several times because a woman or person of color was selected.

•A colleague murmuring under his breath he had to go to “another pointless DEI training,” and he wasn’t going to let it make him feel bad for being a white guy.

What are white men feeling? I cannot speak for them, it’s not my lived experience, but this is what I observe.

They are feeling what it’s like to not dominate all of the power; what it’s like to not have advantage all of the time, what it’s like to be BIPOC past and present.

• White people don’t often think about their race; whiteness in this country is what is seen as most American and normal. This stems from racist ideologies, thinking along the lines of, “I have the power and privilege, so everybody else is different from me.”

• They may feel they are being blamed for the current state of affairs or they're being shamed for their privileges.

• Others focus on equality and fairness, missing the mark on equity, noting it’s not fair women and BIPOC are being given more advantages. This thinking presumes it's been fair all along, which is untrue.

• There’s a sense of loss, not wanting what’s good for the entire human ecosystem if it doesn’t benefit self.

. White men are feeling the pressure. Some feel like, “You're talking about me without including me in the conversation.”

We can’t force white men to engage the DEI conversation. The invitation is open. DEI work is lifelong learning, and it’s incredibly difficult to navigate in the workplace because it is organizational and deeply personal. Volumes of research shows a diverse workforce, an inclusive culture, and equitable systems and processes lead to greater innovation and performance, which leads to a competitive advantage and greater profits. DEI supports more opportunities for everyone, including white men, even if they feel like they are losing in the short term.

A useless person in a useless position. You can be sure nearly everyone at MIT filters her emails to the trash. It was the first thing I did when my employer started sending out that junk.
I had a folder in my Outlook titled "Trash - Other" and right next to the trash folder. People would ask what that was; had a rule to dump all the corporate emails about what a great team we are, and hey it's lgbt month, and darkie month, and let's celebrate our diverse company, and hey our CEO is a girl boss who's killing it.

Everything went to the other trash. Just so if someone looked over my shoulder, saw that, and wanted to ask; "Oh, it's just these emails."

Sorry, are you invalidating their lived experience, sweetie? Who are you to tell them their emotions aren't valid? Do Better.

(I hate myself for writing that.)

Another article begging White people to get on board with diversity, which again I remind you all means that this ship is sinking.

It's addressed to White men, but really it's for Whites in general. The idea, as it usually is, is to give White women an out from being the main victims of racial targeting so that hopefully they neg White men from inside the group. The problem, as it usually is, is that blacks can't swallow their entitlement and hubris long enough to ask for help instead of stomping their feet and demanding it while giving an 80 IQ lecture in the process.

Sorry nigger, no gibs for you I'm afraid.

The future isn't a boot, it's shit like this being rubbed in our faces, forever, isn't it?

A twerking sheboon's buttocks smearing your windshield. Dodging pajeet-droppings on the sidewalk on your way to shop for your goyslop. All while being lectured by some fellow white about how privileged (((we))) are.

I'd prefer the fucking boot.

It's almost as if nobody ever stops to contemplate the very obvious implications of a handful of multinational-owning multibillionaire oligarchs replacing the white working middle class with a bunch of imported niggers who can be worked 16 hours/day for literally pennies on the dollar.

didn't the U.S. already fight some war or something over this once already? ...oh wait

But you can certainly force a bunch of white men to sit in a big room as some lightly-tanned guy, in a vest with a buffalo embroidered on it of course, plays a drum and talks about how privileged they are because their family name was never changed by a government official and they were never forcibly relocated by a colonial power.
Flashback to school.
"The US government said they were bad parents and TOOK THEIR KIDS AWAY!"
The foster kids: :/
"And then they forced all the kids to go to SCHOOL! How evil!"
The whole class: -_-

“I can’t speak for white men but… oh no I will anyway.’
The majority of white people, in Britain and America, were POOR. In Britain, they were incredibly poor, practically serfs, right up to WW2. I’ve posted this article before, but it’s well worth looking at the photos in it. Look how poor everyone is.
Look at those pictures, Ms. Walker, and tell me what level of ‘white privilege’ they had? The bloke trapping rats in the underground, are you telling me he’s got white privilege?
You can take your diversity lectures and shove them.

Reminds me of that old Orwell quote, where he recalls being on a train, and seeing a girl washing clothes in a tub in her garden; and thinking that the idea of the poor of Britain being content, was absolute bollocks because he could see the genuine despair on the faces of people in the slums.

Also; because I have to get my racism for the day in: One thing I notice about these articles is how genuinely hamfisted and blatant the two facedness of it all is. I get the impression that the author thinks that they are pulling some fantastic literary propaganda trick; where they subtly weave an intricate narrative to convince the white audience around to her way of seeing things. But the actual content is just a fat wog sitting there smugly sucking her teeth and gesturing with oversized nails, while saying "Sheeeeeeit, dem whyte boyz be angeerayyyyy! Sheeeeiiiit they rich tho!" It's like when you first meet someone that lies pathologically and you have this kneejerk 'Jesus, what the fuck' reaction to the sheer volume of bullshit they spew with such obvious ease.

I've been attending my work's DIE meetings for about 2 months now (mostly to piss off the foreman because it's in the middle of my shift and he can't stop me) and it's been a truly bizarre experience. As the only cis huwite male to attend while being a union member and not a corporate-pansy, I can actually push back at times without risking my job.

What's funny is that the DIE group is surprisingly accepting of what I have to say, but they simply don't parse it. They've asked me "Why don't Union members take us seriously?" and when I tell them "It's because you, who is calling them privileged, is a person who sits in an AC controlled office, gets paid more than them, and does a safe, easy job" the words just flow right around them. They then go on to "acknowledge their class privilege" in meetings, but never actually address their rhetoric towards the floor workers.

It's actually really fascinating in a morbid way. They're like hamsters in their tubes, they've got some vague idea of the world outside, but no real concept of it.

Thats fine, just dont come crawling when your diverse utopia implodes because nobody could keep the power running and the water in the pipes....

Diversity getaways at my job are fun... last time we started to pop open the first beer at lunch and watched football,
The DIE person was almost crying because his smoothbrain couldnt decide how to tell us to stop watching womans football.

Beating them with their own ideas is fun and works pretty well

Are these the studies where Asians suddenly become a minority group again?

We have all seen the studies where when they compare Blacks, Latinos, and Whites they mysteriously don't include Asians.

Then it's possible with these studies that Asians are able to be counted for the comparison.

Next, we have to ask if the diversity is in an actual role rather than in token departments to fulfill the DEI checklist.

First, they make the critical mistake of conflating the idea that "white men run all the important institutions" with the actual truth of "those in charge of these institutions are largely white men". You can argue that this is evidence of some kind of systemic prejudice, but it certainly makes a difference when it comes to the vast majority of white men, who are way more likely to be a janitor than they are a CEO. And even if you want to be upset at how few female CEOs there are, at least those women end up in a make-work HR job instead of literally knee-deep in filth.

It is ironic how hard they push the "lol white men mad" DEI lines while at the same time including anyone lighter than the most vantablack nigger under the big tent of "white supremacy". That old classic chart showing the cultural traits of white supremacy, where it said that hard work and logical rigor were white supremacy? All this shit is, at best, narcissists lashing out at people who they see as unjustly being more successful than them, but more likely is designed to get people yelling at random white men (and vice versa) than at the people who actually run the world. It worked to bust up Occupy Wall Street, why change the strategy? It keeps working every time.

DEI is a fucking scam, these cunts been charging companies out the ass for this shit which only enrages workers but you need it so the overjews at blackrock wont give your company frowny stickers

This bitch is writing this because she senses her scam might be near over
