You need to be insane to be a speedrunner, but which game has the most deranged group of crazies wasting their lives trying to shave off milliseconds from a game nobody is playing anymore?

I'm going to preemptively guess Pokemon because it ticks being popular, nostalgic, RNG dependent and slow as fuck.

in terms of trannyism celeste would be #1.
mario kart wii has crazy tricks that take years to master.
mike tyson's punchout is the absolute hardest in terms of raw RNG

Super Mario 64 kaizo romhacks. The games look absolutely terrible and unfun and they're run exclusively by extreme autists who flip the fuck out all the time, actual lolcow material. Hell even runners of the OG game are known for raging.

Geometry Dash isn't really a speedrunning game but it's kinda adjacent and the community is totally insane on account of being comprised of teens from discord.

The first tranny I saw in speedrunning was some fag who did Zelda, real freak. My vote goes to Zelda, but I barely pay attention to speedrunning outside Summoning Salt.

All of them. Speedrunning is the worst type of ADHD a person can have.

People who do 100% hundred hour games like gran turismo 4s 230 hour "speed" run or baten kaitos' 337 world record speed run. Sure people put an incredibly autistic amount of time into speed running but atleast the individual runs are actually quick and you're not spending half a month on a single run, it's basically omega autistic dessert bus. At that point why not do something cool like leveling to level 99 in the first room of ff7 (dicktree is a nigger) or something like that.

Well it's not the Monkey Ball community they're actually pretty cool and chill. Most speedrunning communities are it's just the ones that aren't are so obnoxious it makes speedrunning in general look insane. I mean it is but it's fun to watch.

Anything high rng is hilarious to watch because you basically have gambling addicts raging that 20 1/2000's went wrong again. I reccomend Yugioh speedruns, best spergouts.

Especially Forbidden Memories, that one game that became infamous for taking hours upon hours to speedrun even if the RNG is on your side (and it often isn't).

What about those gook RPGs where the speedrun is like 8 hours long and 7 hours of that is sitting through cutscenes? Speedrunning is probably the most autistic activity mankind has ever known but I can respect stuff that at least takes some serious skill, like Doom and Quake.

I don't know if it counts, but Games Done Quick and their successors, spin offs, and competitors. Somehow they struck gold. Get a bunch of speedrunners together once a year and raise money for charity. I would've said it wouldn't work, but it did. Once it was popular however, the original founder stepped down and ever since it's been drama and decline as it's more about the politics of the people playing the game and what cringe the live audience will get up to.

At a certain point it becomes rote memorization or repeating things until RNG is in your favour. This is why I liked GDQ so much. Sometimes they'd use "safety strats" or make a mistake and have to recover. It's like glitches. Yeah, there's some skill in executing a frame perfect combo, but at some point they're not playing the game any more. I don't know if this is why so few racing games have speed runs. You'd think they'd be perfect for it, but when they are run it's usually games with massive exploits like Mario Kart, Lego Racer, and Gran Turismo.
