Question of the Week is moving to Mondays, and we’ll be announcing this week’s winners on Friday. But the format of the contest remains the same: leave a comment on this post, and you’ll be automatically entered to win BaT merchandise. Our favorite answer each week gets a $25 hat or t-shirt from the BaT Gear Store. Last week, we asked what’s the weirdest automotive tool you’ve ever encountered?
This week, we’re talking utes. Our question is: which car makes the best truck?
There are a number of factory options to consider. Certainly the Chevelle-based El Camino is the most famous, though it didn’t appear until two years after the competing Ford Ranchero, which shared its platform with the Ford Falcon.
The Mk. 1 Volkswagen Golf/Rabbit is surprisingly handsome as a pickup.
But conversions like the Fox-body “Truckstang” or this Volvo 240 ute are certainly within bounds.
A hearty salute to Subaru for bravely marketing the Leone-based Brat and Legacy-platform Baja long after most other manufacturers had abandoned the ute concept.
We even love tiny utes like this Fiat 500 Giardiniera conversion (reminiscent of the Ghia Fiat Ziba concept truck) or the Suzuki Mighty Boy (definitely one of our favorite model names, to be sure).
But those are just a few examples. We want to know what you think! Which car makes the best truck?
Nominate your favorites in the comments, and give a thumbs-up to any other nominations you deem worthy. We’ll announce the winner on Friday.
Congratulations again to last week’s winner, fourpointtwo. Enjoy your new BaT gear!
