Where do you look when shaking hands?

or bumping fists or elbows or whatever substitute people have come up with. I always end up staring at the other person's hand to make sure I don't miss and execute the greeting properly. I lock eyes before and after but the in-between makes me feel weird, like, are they wondering if I am retarded or not.

Please share your experience, strategies and anything else.
