What's wrong with necroposting?

I've seen good necroposting and bad necroposting. Most of the time it seems pointless, but if it adds something then why not? I've seen a few threads where some new conversation came out of a necropost.

Adding a flag to Outlook to remind me to post in this thread in 4 years.

How long does the thread have to be inactive to consider a new post as necroposting? Six months or less? One year or more? I'm genuinely asking because I have the same doubt.

Edit: for example, there are a couple of threads I follow that haven't had any answers since last December, and I wanna post something relevant to keep them going but I don't know if I would be necroposting or not.
