What would you do if you went blind?

I'd bumblefuck my way through the garage feeling for the chemical cabinet where I think I left an oxygen mask. Finding that, I'd then work my way over to the shelf that holds my HVAC repair equipment. I'd feel around for the neck of my nitrogen bottle which is just below that shelf.

You can see where this is going.

I'd put a knife at end of my cane, both for protection and so I can use it to pick up litter.

Can't hear voices, music, the retarded community,
Main downside of going deaf is the deaf community is full of a bunch of retards that even if you gave them the option to hear again perfectly they probably wouldn't take.

Being blind would suck, but occasionally I think being deaf would be worse. Can't hear voices, music, the retarded community, etc. At least if I am blind, I can throw on some music and feel a bit better.
Blind people are less insular. They have sighted friends, they accept accommodations.

Capital-D Deaf people are catty and will shun each other for acting too hearing or otherwise betraying the community.

Blind people get free postage in the United States, which is at least nice. "Blind" is a much broader term than you think, so consider looking it up to check if you could be mailing letters to your grandma for free. IIRC printed text only has to be in a 14 point font or greater.

My grandmother was legally blind for 40 years. But she was always buying stamps. I never knew about the postage. She probably would have qualified. She had glaucoma, macular degenerations and Charles Bonnet.
