He's 35 years old and he's never had a job or a real life friend or lived on his own. You can't blame it on Rob Bell. Chris caused that himself. Barb is senile. She's probably been sliding into senility for quite a while. Bob and Barb made bad decisions, but the bad decisions were not giving Chris a chance to live independently. The money stuff is irrelevant. No one who lives to an old age and infirmity and dementia owes a 35 year old son money. Parents owe their child a life. Chris isn't capable. I hope I'm wrong, but he hasn't gotten better since Bob died. The exact opposite is true.

Barb did most of that, starting with blowing all of Bob's money on Rob Bell, largely because she was on the hook for her own felonies in the Snyder case. When it was just Chris, she let a public defender do it. Most of the money was blown on her hoard of worthless garbage.

It's even funnier because Snyder himself was the one who just wanted to let it go. A public defender would've ended up with the same result

It's hard to bet against Chris after he pulled off Bronycon this year with seemingly EVERYTHING stacked against him and he still had a delightful time.

Real world consequences that would fuck most of us in the ass just don't seem to stick to him. I mean, he came home to a cleaned room after fucking up two cars and spending thousands of dollars on himself.

He worked at Wendy's for a minute after the turn of the millenium (it counts). He has nerd friends and gay club friends he hangs out with when he's not online.

1. That MAJOR WUSS was supposed to give Chris the keys to the game place!
2. Chris was egged on by Barb to go to the game place and she was in the driver's seat at one point herself. She also assaulted a cop.
3. The Captain recently confirmed the idea that she's bullshitting and her mental faculties are just fine.
Bob and Barb made bad decisions, but the bad decisions were not giving Chris a chance to live independently.
Even you don't think he could pull that off. An unusual amount of people here think he should be put in a group home (which is not independent living).

Most people who live to old age don't borrow against their child's insurance for q-sand money, or shriek at their retarded son to pay off her bills and mortgage without telling him the finer details, or wreck their son's room and make him sleep in the same room as them so that he'll be close by in case she needs q-sands. Barb sure as hell won't let him have a life.
And no, he's been made to get off his fat ass and get stuff done on his own since bob died, which is kind of important for him to do.

Barb could possibly live another 10-20 years. By most accounts the bewildered dementia addled poor old barb we've seen is an act, and I believe it is an act. Look at the video where she is trying to sell Cole's comics. She's clearly enjoying herself with a gleam in her eye and everything.

Second, I see Chris getting a crappy one bedroom apartment and being fine. The tugboat would cover a small one bedroom easily along with utilities. I do think eventually the ebay well will run dry, but that will just mean he can't buy as many toys.

You can't blame it on Rob Bell.

I didn't blame it on Rob Bell, I blamed it on Barb. That one legal defense blew nearly the entirety of what Bob left them, and it was entirely up to Barb to do that. Chris wouldn't have even known how to waste that much money on a lawyer.

Are you fucking retarded? Barb was in the drivers seat before they switched. Barb fought with the cops. Barb insisted on being fully acquitted instead of taking a plea deal and pissed all of the inheritance away just to get the same fucking result in the end.

If someone can get him over the hump of her death Chris will be fine without Barb being around to fuck up his life.

INCOMING PLOT TWIST: Barb turned out to be more computer-literate than any of us ever realized and has been secretly reading the forums. She's plotting to not let chris have independence by turning into a ghost after she dies and following him around forever.

Further plot twist @Marvin is barb, and the man in the pickel suit from the video is buried under paties doghouse.

I think of that too sometimes. Then I remember a guy I worked with who lived with his paernts at age 39. Imagine Chris but as a pedo looking motherfucker (no joke, he looked a lot like Chris back in 2010 when I worked with this guy) with even goofier glasses, a beer gut, and an actually nice car. It must have been nice to not worry about rent or bills.

Then I realize I wouldn't want to live as 39 year old virgin who lives with his parents and was severely bald. White people really go bald fast when they get hit with it young. It's just weird to see.

I think it also depends on where you live. If rent is stupidly priced then fuck it, live with your parents.

Not the case with the likes of Chris, he is guaranteed enough monthly income to cover rent.

Even then, I live in Austin which has some of the highest rent in Texas. It's still satisfying to know I'm a self-sufficient adult who can make ends meet. I'm not knocking folks who live with their parents but this dude was a giant asshole who deserved the shit we piled on him.

A parent doesn't owe their kid anything after they become an adult. Barb didn't owe Chris insurance or the house. A lot of people today are forced to pay for their retirement with reverse mortgages. I'm sure Barb handled the money poorly when Bob died. But I think she may have been experiencing the early stages of dementia at that point too, and that may have played a part. I definitely think that was responsible for her part in the Snyder incident.

The only question I have is does Chris have the necessary life skills and intellectual resources to navigate through the major life change that he'll be facing soon? I don't see much evidence in his past indicating that he is capable of handling all of the responsibilities that go with complete emancipation. And I don't see that the Chandlers have built any alliances with family members or close friends that will help him through it. I know his internet friends won't be of any help to him. Some of us send him money once in a while, but on the whole, we exploit and manipulate Chris. He isn't in charge and it's quite a stretch to try to argue that the internet has been good to Chris.

Some people here seem to think he'll do better after Barb is gone. I hope that's the case. I'm not trying to say I told you so by bringing this stuff up. I'm an audience member of the Truman Show too. I just think that we've seen the final act, and if we don't bring down the curtain and let Chris go have a normal rest of his life, it won't be a fun show to watch any more.

There is, actually, an ethical obligation to not utterly ruin your family's finances and burn your inheritance so you can spend wastefully on Goodwill garbage, depriving your special needs adult child of a house and assets when you pass and thus leaving them worse off than they would've been if you weren't a greedy sack of shit. Any halfway competent parent would do this.

Again: Chris does everything to keep 14BC running while Barb does nothing and takes most of his money to waste on herself. If she were to die, he'd lose the house (thanks to her; it didn't have to be that way) but he'd suddenly have a lot more income.

You keep affecting sympathy for Chris while stubbornly defending and rationalising his worst burden.

Elderly parents with dementia are a terrible burden. So are autistic children who are completely dependent far into adulthood. The whole world has burdens. We deal with it.

He might have left if she hadn't done everything possible to fucking cripple him and threaten to kill herself any time there was any chance of him leaving.

Chris being still there is on her.
