What possesses bugs to attack the face?

I've had bugs fly directly into my ears, nose, eyes, lips, etc.

What the fuck? Do you want to be dissolved in my sinuses just to fuck up my day?

Because they are flying at that altitude, so they go into your face, which you notice (but you often don't when it's on your torso and legs).

Sometimes some bugs are also attracted to what's on you, I believe some mosquitoes detect carbon dioxide so they go towards that if they believe there is no threat; or for other insects: sweat/other substances (oils that your body produces) coming out of your skin, specific smells, or maybe even heat.
