Mangashit but I would say Good Night Punpun. It was unique and good, which is rare because you generally only get one or the other with newer media. The way the characters all felt so real, it was a break from what I was used to in media, and that made the themes and messages it wanted to convey so much easier to digest. It is a little edgy though. Don't read it if you're not a cool edger like me.

I think like a lot of people, 1984 was my first intro to government tomfuckery, propaganda and control. As a kid I always thought those crazy old men who ranted against the government were maybe just a little kooky...kinda strange, funny. Then I read that book in Jr. High and just got it.

Now that I am no longer naive and realize that we are all just insecure, egotistical and irredeemably greedy speciemens, I want nothing to do with people, politics, OR the world and simply want to live my life in humble study of The Cat.

but yeah. it was 1984

Revisiting the Deus Ex franchise when COVID hit had an outsize influence on me...though that might have had more to do with the themes from the game leaking into real life before my eyes than the game itself.
