What makes good art?

I don't think technique matters that much.
Sure, the better the technique, the better you are at translating your thoughts and feelings into whatever artform you do.
If your presentation is garbage, nobody will care.
However, that comes naturally with practice.
Do something once and it's hard, do it 1000 times and it becomes easy, the proper technique will become muscle memory.

Good art I think has to be your art, it can't just be something you copied, that's craftsmanship, nothing bad about being a good craftsman but we're talking about art.
It needs to say something you want to say, be it through words or other medium, and primarily, it should make people feel something.
You should of course go beyond that and make people think, give...

So, in short:
Technical proficiency, originality, feeling, intelligence, message.
That would be what I would go for when trying to make good art.

Professional and legitimate lessons. No amount of "talent" or self-taught bullshit will ever compare to someone who has actually sat down and has been taught the fundamentals.

@Solid Snek why the disagree? What are you some some CalArts student?
