A lifetime ago i kept parrots, and I hand raised a Moluccan cockatoo from a naked chick just days old. I’ve had cats and dogs my whole life, but that damn bird was the sweetest animal I ever knew. I’ve had all sorts of parrots and none of them was as affectionate as that fat fella. Never bit or made a mess, and would follow me around everywhere. Still makes me tear up thinking about him. This one isn’t mine, just what they look like.

Kakapo. An entire species that has decided humans are sexy. It's because of imprinting. Every wild kakapo alive today came from captive birds.

I had a sun conure who was almost dead as a chick. I preened her and raised her to health. She sat on my shoulder and would nibble my ear. Best bird I ever had.
