I know there has probably been threads in here about this topic before but I am curious: what is your "Comfort Game"? You know, the one you always go back to when you just need to feel cozy. Not necessarily your "favorite", though it could be too. Like for example my favorites are a tie between the arcade games Fatal Fury, Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, and Samurai Shodown V Special, but my comfort is in Super Turbo. I just feel at home there.

Let me know what you boot up when you need to feel at home.

I never played Minecraft, it came sort of after my time as a kid. But I would have gone absolutely nuts for it if I had access to it as a little boy. I loved legos and stuff like that, building things etc. That's a good pick.

I like a good arcade fighter too when im feeling down. I love booting up Marvel Vs Capcom 2 when I'm having a bad day and playing a couple of rounds with someone or even just smacking the computer around.

Can't seem to get Naomi board games like MVC2 or Capcom vs. SNK series to run on my emulator/computer. It's just like it doesn't like it somehow. I got Capcom vs. SNK 1 to open a total of ONE time only and then afterward it refused to launch ever again. Sucked because I was so excited I finally got Naomi / Dreamcast games to run. no dice

I did finally get the arcade versions of Tekken 2 and 3, as well as Bloody Roar arcade and Bloody Roar 2 arcade to work after finagling with MAME for awhile. That made me happy. MK4 still has funny artifacts in the polygons and no lighting layer so everything is gamma'd out to the max, but I think that's normal for that rom. something about the arcade board being wonky and hard to decode, like the old Namco boards for Time Crisis 2 (which were recently done properly and emulation is finally possible, by the way)

MVC2 was the last time I liked that series. I tried out MVC3 and really hated the art style and balancing of the characters so I never went any further. Same with Street Fighter. Third Strike is the last one I'll play because I really don't like the art style of 4, 5, and especially 6.

Naomi's super fussy sometimes so I get that. I kinda liked MvC3 but checked out once things started getting less about resets and more about ToD into incoming ( if you aren't morrigan/jean). 2 is definitely more my speed too haha. One of those few head to head games I can play and feel real chill after.

Sometimes I like to go back and play Majora's Mask. Especially now with that HD texture work a fan made. I played the game a lot when I was younger, ended up practically memorizing the whole thing. It's a darker game than OoT (and I know a lot of people prefer the latter), but I enjoyed that aspect. The mask mechanics were fun, and it always felt a bit hopeful, the way you're going around trying to solve all these smaller stories the characters have, in addition to the dungeons and main story of saving the day. I'd like to see another game ape the time travel and open-world-ish character side quests bits, though I know some people loathed the time limit the game put on you.

- Borderlands 2 (one of my all time favorite games) and gunzerk the shit out of bandits and stuff

- One of the Tropico games, usually Tropico 5, start the sandbox mode with infinite money, build a nice little city, turn full Stalin mode, people start disappearing and having accidents until the people start revolting and everything goes full civil war and just watch everything burn down

- One of the GTA games, drive around and listen to the in-game radio until I get bored and start shooting everyone

Dark Souls, there's something about the atmosphere, especially in the first one, that just feels right.
I think if you've played DS before, you are good enough at it where it won't frustrate you anymore, but it still keeps you on your toes enough to get your mind off of whatever you want to push away in the moment - it's Dark Souls 3 for me.

Absolutely LOVED GTA3 radio. The funny talk radio, the cute banter in between songs, the awesome Scarface soundtrack, everything. Had all the words memorized at one point lol. Vice City was a phenomenal follow-up to that, too, in just about every way.

Did you know that the song "Shake It Up" from Scarface that was in GTA3 was sung by the same voice actress that did Tommy Pickles from Rugrats and Buttercup from the Powerpuff Girls? :]

Here is a really good video of it from Soul Train. I like the dude in the Frankenstein mask.

Mgs 3(hard/impossible)

It's a peaceful and calm game. I love coming up with goofy and funny ways to win

Katana zero( hard mode)

It's just very satisfying to play when you're good at it.

Recently got back into doom eternal, played the shit out of it awhile ago. Jumping back in for the master levels.

RDR2 was the main one for most of this year.

Stalker SOC or OWA.

Mighty Final Fight, biggest piece of personal nostalgia, plus the game itself is pretty good, so I just crank up my NES emulator and go for a quick run, next 25 minutes pass in a moment but always left me filled with tranquility.

Toe Jam & Earl 2: Panic on Funkotron, cheerful, upbeat, varied minigames and very pleasing to the eye.

Doom. I'll pop open ZDL, drop in one of my favorite WADs and maybe a gameplay mod, turn my brain off and just blast shit. sometimes I'll play Quake/Quake II or a Build Engine game (Ion Fury counts), one of the Doom engine spinoffs (Heretic/Hexen/Strife), or maybe even Serious Sam (First/Second Encounter) or a Wolf3D engine spinoff (Blake Stone/Planet Strike) if I'm feeling gonzo. looking forward to the Rise of the Triad remaster coming out soon

Brutal Doom64 is my favorite. The darkness mixed with all the comfort and quality of life addons from Brutal, along with the gorgeous (FINISHED!) weapon animations. Oh man I could rant and rave about Brutal Doom64 all day. Absolutely perfect iteration of that N64 game. I play it at least once a month, at very least.
