City of Heroes. It’s long dead now, but a few ghost servers keep it alive. Best MMO I ever played with one of the best communities too. Very much a “you had to be there in its heyday” kind of game

Come back, bro. Homecoming is free and has a massive playerbase and was actually given a license by the current owner of the game, so they're permitted to keep the servers up. I've been having so much fun.

Online games suck nowadays, they're either good games past their prime, or they're new games that are GAAS with 50 currencies.
I play hunt showdown because of friends. But the last real good online game I played was COH2 years ago.
