What happened to Youtube? - It looks more like shorts now even on longform videos

I don't know when they rolled this out. Some time in the past couple of days maybe. I'm on desktop and not using the app. But now it looks like this when you watch a video:

Comments are on a tiny sidebar and under the video is a tile pattern of other videos that seems to go on forever. The whole thing looks like mobile oriented garbage.

Yeah this is corpo content but I checked a channel about someone's cat and the same thing. And the tiled feed at the bottom is full of things that have zero to do with cats. Temu, mirror making, cheese ect... WTF Youtube? I am not on mobile and don't need Youtube to look like mobile faggotry. I can barely see the comments they are so small now. It's the same orientation as shorts. Just with a tiled video feed instead of a singular vertical one.

I keep looking through options to fix it. But I'm not seeing anything that helps. Is there a way to fix it that I'm missing?

It's the new UI. Just wait until YT gets enough backlash on twitter from the change. To me it seems that this is likely done to emphasize the videos more in order to keep you hooked and making the comment section a secondary thing. I hate how it looks now, the previous one was tidy and emphasized the video player. Now it's crowded and wants you to click on the next goyslop content.

Short answer, people who work on the UI need to justify their wages. so they change the format because if it’s good it’s good, if it’s bad they revert it either way they get to stay in job until they don’t.

I'm thinking they want to maximize ads by getting you to click on all that garbage you can't avoid now. Because if you scroll the comments the feed scrolls with it. The feed seems so random. Just like shorts. They keep pushing shorts. Even if you try to filter them or say you aren't interested you still cannot completely get them off your feed. Suck it Youtube.

i hate it because it's different but tbh it's probably a better layout (except for the video descriptions being in a stupid redundant card that appears below the truncated description, which remains even when you click 'more' for some reason)

i'm not totally sure it's mobile faggotry because in a narrow window the endless thumbnail loading seems broken with comments underneath it. i'm not going to look at the actual mobile page to check though

btw 'tweaks for youtube' is a pretty great firefox extension if you want it to be less shit in general

I think I'm going to end up using some kind of extension. Do any of them work for Brave or should I stick to Firefox?

Edit: I used the Ublock filter. Beautiful. 🤗

They're so confident in their psuedo monopoly that they are basically at the "fuck you, where else are you going to go?" phase. Because they know that hardly anyone there is leaving for rumble, bitchute or odyssey. Their only real competition is tiktok, so they have to make themselves more like tiktok to lure people back from there.
