Still valid! Every lubricant has its place. The teflon WD40 seems like a clean and easy option for many household applications traditionally left to drippy 3-in-1 oil.
Since this is the lubethread, I should also give a shout-out to Molykote 111 for situations requiring the silicone/dielectric grease.
It is very viscous and robust. Works as a cable lubricant, non-curing water resistive sealant, gasket nonstick protection, and so on.
