Today's parents seem to have forgotten that, while you shouldn't beat the living out of your child for simple mistakes, discipline from a young age is still very important. Children should not be physically abused but it's important to assert yourself as the authority through physical means that the child can understand (since a younger one doesn't quite get verbal commands). Its not abuse to forbid things or punish bad behaviors.
Incompetent parents make incompetent children. I truly feel bad for this new generation, it's not really their fault, they are still so young.
I even heard, from family friends, new elementary school kids are struggling to write because of severely impaired motor functions. They're all struggling in class, not only when it comes to grades but behavior in general. They have not been taught basic etiquette or respect.
It might seem strange to say this considering they spend all day in front of a screen, but tech literacy is practically non-existent. They're raised on technology, but can't use basic functions of a computer. Hell, some even struggle to use a keyboard! Because they're just on smartphones and the phone dictates for the user, not the other way around.
I remember one of the aspects I thoroughly enjoyed about a computer is the control you get, and how many things you can do. Now it's just scrolling through some designated "apps".
