I saw a trailer for the 3D beat'em'up Dragon Khan and decided to give the demo a try.

Being less harsh on some things because they're ostensibly a tiny-ass studio:

- It's UE5 so it runs pretty bad and has tons of gross post-processing effects. Leans on DLSS/XeSS, for example.
- It sets all options to ULTRA by default so it runs even worse at first.
- All voice acting seems to be AI generated. I don't reflexively hate AI, but these voices are bad.
- Environments feel super inconsistent, I have a feeling most of the game is asset packs. No effort has been made to make the typical fantasy assets mesh together with the random Giger-esque textures on some walls and floors.
- The basic gameplay is actually alright. Combat seems quite fun, and while parkour  looks jank, it didnt break.

Tl;dr: The usual UE5 stereotypes apply, but the actual gameplay itself is acceptable. They need real voice actors, and they need to try and make the disparate asset packs they've used fit together.

Also, trying this demo kind of reminded me why I like jumping between different kinds of games instead of sticking to just one style. Some days I’m in the mood for action-heavy stuff like beat ’em ups, other days I just want something more relaxed or luck-based to chill with. I usually test a bunch of things before deciding what to really spend time on, and having places that explain games simply really helps. For example, when I’m not in the mood for action games, I’ll sometimes check sites like https://casinosanalyzer.com/free-spins-no-deposit/free-chips to see which online casinos and bonuses are actually worth trying, especially when they offer free spins or chips so you can test things without risk. It’s the same idea as with Dragon Khan’s demo: I don’t want to commit before I know if the style fits me. Whether it’s a rough indie action game or a casino game, being able to test, compare, and get clear info saves a lot of wasted time and makes gaming way more enjoyable.
UE5 has so much firepower, but it can easily backfire when defaults are cranked up, and there isn’t enough optimisation, so the performance complaints don’t surprise me at all. The way settings get shoved to ULTRA out of the box feels like it’s trying to sell visuals instead of actually making the game play well, and that’s frustrating as a first impression.

Just finished Avalon Tainted Grail on my holidays. I've been sucked into a cheapo 2d pixel game called Moonstone Island, it's got some wokey shit with the NPCS sporting nose rings, but it's a cross between pokemon collecting with "spirits" and turned based deck building battles. I've been really enjoying it.

There is a fun mechanic where you need to fly to different isle, you start out with a balloon and and complete quests to upgrade to better flying options.

animal crossing new horizons came out with a new update so it's nice to do some casual gamin'

Chess. I came across a thread on the Farms about some drama in the chess community and joined Chess.com to play some games.

After not playing for decades, I am absolute dog shit at it.
oh man, this year i decided to learn how to play chess and holy shit i'm awful at it. at least i learned what the pieces are called. good luck to you

Replayed Mass Effect over the Christmas holiday only to be reminded how much I dislike most of the game. Now I'm replaying Alpha Protocol but I haven't yet decided how I want to approach this playthrough so it's been shelved for a couple days. Ever since I got over the flu, I've been unmotivated to play anything.

I just finished The Seance at Blake Manor, and it was a solid game. Steam is doing a detective sale right now, and there’s a free demo, so if a heavily stylized mystery game set in the 1700s sounds interesting, I recommend it.
I tried the demo and enjoyed it thus far but I saw the little placard about the seance itself in the hotel lobby saying something like "everyone is welcome, no matter the color or creed." I fucking know it's going to be the in-game excuse for stuffing niggers into 19th century Ireland. Do you have any insight into the state of the riffraff in the Irish countryside or am I tilting at windmills?

There’s a single one visiting from New Orleans, and there’s a single instance of gay shit that comes up in one of the side mysteries, but it was overall unobtrusive enough that I forgot to say anything about it in my recommendation post.

Good to know. I actually would have expected more homosex than that considering the types that would be attracted to a seance/occult shit.

Replaying Middle Earth: Shadow of War for the third time since 2017, doing a full-effort 100% achievements playthrough just so I can say I'm done with it. As fun as the combat is, and as much as I enjoy the nemesis mechanic and the second-order effects of how you deal with enemy captains, the rest of the game is honestly kinda ass. Especially the whole Carnán quest line with all the forced mounted combat, I ended up putting it on Journalist difficulty and switching the voice language to Japanese (to not have to listen to her awful pretentious speaking in verse), and just speedran through it. It also has the same problem I had with most Assassins Creed games, where sometimes your character will just do whatever they want, instead of jumping or climbing where you were clearly aiming the camera.

Still, it's fun as fuck to play MKULTRA with all the orc captains while being Nazgul Batman. A real shame we'll never see a similar game, it would have been easy as fuck to paste some other franchise on top of the nemesis system.

Just finished Remnant 2. Got stuck on the Water Harp Puzzle. Solved it. Then ran thru the rest of the game with a random Coop -I was Host- partner until a third person jumped in for the final area. Unfortunately I didn't get to experience the victory of killing the final boss as a full team cause myself and 1 of the other team members got down and out so we got to enjoy a random claim Victory. Hilarious though cause the same thing happened when I played Remnant From the Ashes.

I feel like all the progression and campaign is just tutorializing and filler to get you to peak power and unlock being a NazGhul and a necromancer, so you can spend the postgame doing MGSV's Chapter 3: Peace and grinding out all the purple Legendary sets.
It's one of those "Postgame is where the real game starts" situations.

I need to play the black guy roguelite DLC again at some point too: he has no Ring powers, which gives his gameplay some nice changes.

Doubleposting to wonder aloud: why the fuck did this byproduct of a gumboot-scraping add in an advert for casino faggotry when it quoted me? Is this a bot or just a retard?

I finished the story of Far Cry 3 and moved on to the 4th one. It's only downhill from here.

It's definitely got some picturesque moments in the open world but I don't think a single moment from the story REALLY made me interested. I now remember why I don't usually replay this one, because I lost all interest in the story the moment I unlocked the Arena activity. The only other missions that actually seemed interesting were the ones that took place in Shangri-La, and that's optional content.
I couldn’t finish Far Cry 4, but I played 5, New Dawn and 6 prior to it so it felt dated in comparison. Pagan Min is over the top but the story of what made him that way is really good.

Far Cry 5 is my favorite. The environment and music is beautiful. Whenever I got to Jacob’s loading screen (the one with the wolf drinking from the lake) I felt my shoulders lowering, and then realising I had my shoulders up by my ears from tension. I still put it on in the background sometimes. It’s also the first FPS I ever played so having to arrest the cult leader at his creepy compound full of crazy people within the first 5 minutes of the game felt TENSE.

New Dawn sucks but it’s fun to see the map after the events in 5, and the villains music playing at the outposts makes killing them a lot easier.

FC6 is fine, environment is probably similar to FC3. Story is a bit odd but… hey, it’s Gus Fring!

Dunno if you're done with the game now or not but the first dlc at least is worth your time. All of them add really good equipment but the second and third aren't nearly as interesting and in the case of the third, navigating can be downright miserable.

What kind of build were you using? I burned myself out shortly after launch when my preferred playstyles got nerfed but I came back after the final dlc and was extremely pleased at how the buildcraft ended up playing out. Almost everything was viable once you had an understanding of how systems interacted with each other and practically every playstyle could compete on apocalypse. I think what I ended up really liking about the game was that it had good buildcraft, rewarded your understanding of its systems, and didn't have the grind associated with other games that have similarly complex buildcraft systems. The prism in particular was a fantastic addition, though getting a perfect one was frustrating.

You're not the first victim of this, it's been done to other users too if you check their post history. Seems to be a weirdly subtle marketing ploy where they quote you and add in a section at the end where they pretend to be you and throw in a link for some site, usually a casino. Found another account that does this too: @MarcellaM. Strange stuff.

Thread tax: Koei's Attack on Titan game (The 1st one, the 2nd one feels like ass). Way better than it has any right to be, went in expecting some garbage but got one of the best feeling action games I've ever played. Boss battles are kinda a pain in the ass though, especially on the harder difficulty mode, super janky super tanky assholes. The moment to moment gameplay of killing titans is divine though, I even got all S ranks and did all optional objectives which is pretty rare for me. Probably deserves a 100% but that's also a PITA cuz you have to unlock every weapon and they require all different kinds of mats to make that drop from different levels so... nah. Not now anyway.

I'm happy to see someone else finally say they liked FC5 for reasons other than just the "Rifle By My Side" song (it's a good song, admittedly).

Hope County reminds me of semi-rural and rural New Zealand in so many fucking ways, aside from the wildlife and characters' accents. It's easy to pretend it's taking place in some weird alternate reality version of the Heretaunga Plains, up the Kaweka ranges, and out into CHB. Combine that with the great music and the sandbox and combat working for me, it's the one game in the series I enjoy all this time later.
Really hope I get to play thru the story co-op with someone someday just for the chaos.

Some of the areas are kind of Lord of the Ring-y, now that you mention it!
Funny thing is that the song playing at Jacob’s loading screen is actually Keep Your Rifle By Your Side, but the ambient choir version 😅
I’m usually late to everything so I missed the whole meme of it!

I’m thinking about starting my 4th(?) playthrough soon, I just need to get bored of the games I’m playing currently first lol
