‘Rugrats’ Relaunch Set With Nickelodeon Series, Paramount Movie
Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures announced today a relaunch of the kids’ entertainment franchise “Rugrats.” A new animated-series revival featuring the characters from the ’90s cartoon has received with a 26-episode order from Nickelodeon; and Paramount Players, the new film division launched to develop projects based on properties from Viacom cable channels, has given a greenlight to a live-action film featuring CGI characters. Both the TV series and the movie will include new adventures with beloved characters Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil, Susie and Angelica, and will also introduce a new world of characters.

The show’s original creators Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó and Paul Germain will return to the TV series as executive producers. Nickelodeon’s “Rugrats” will be produced in Burbank, Calif., with production already underway. Additional news of the TV series, airdate and casting will be announced in the coming months.

“Rugrats is hands-down one of the most celebrated cartoons in TV history, and we are thrilled for a whole new audience to meet these iconic characters in brand-new adventures,” said Sarah Levy, COO of Viacom Media Networks and interim president of Nickelodeon. “What was true in 1991 when the original show premiered is still true today: kids are fascinated with the world of babies. We can’t wait for today’s kids to meet Tommy, Chuckie and pals.”

The “Rugrats” movie will be written by David Goodman and is set to be released on Nov. 13, 2020 by Paramount Players, the division of Paramount Pictures that develops and produces co-branded feature films with Viacom’s leading media networks.

“Now feels like the ideal time to reintroduce this iconic cast of characters to a whole new generation of young fans,” said Brian Robbins, president of Paramount Players. “Kids who grew up with Tommy Pickles and the “Rugrats” crew will now be able to share that experience with their own children.”

“Rugrats” joins the recently announced return of “Blue’s Clues” as the latest classic original series Nickelodeon is bringing back for today’s generation of kids and families. Nickelodeon produced and aired an all-new “Hey Arnold!” special in 2017, and has announced the return of two more beloved titles as forthcoming specials: “Rocko’s Modern Life” and “Invader Zim.”

I don't know how to feel about this. Don't get me wrong, I loved this show as a kid, but is it really necessary to bring it back? I'd rather let dead shows be dead than to reboot/revive them, barring some exceptions such as Samurai Jack.

At least the original creators are reportedly working on the revival, not some obscure shitty soyboy webcomic artist who feels the need to peddle LGBTQwhatever propaganda and has zero respect for the original franchise and its fans.

Klasky-Csupo's still around, but they don't really do much these days. It's work for them, sure, but surely wouldn't a Real Monsters film, like the Hey Arnold and Rocko films Nick has done, be better?

While I'm not interested in this new She-Ra series due out soon (at all...), I'm even less interested in seeing Rugrats come back in any sense - going back in time, the moment Dil got introduced was the moment I felt this series lost all meaning for me. Sure, Kimi was a nice addition, but not a good enough reason for this show to keep going, either.

Yeah - I'm still waiting for that RML movie due out someday; other than that, I don't care about any of this BS.

It's just the realities of animation production.

Then again, you've had shows that look like utter shit in the intros too. I mean the 80s has a lot of those. And Steven Universe's intro isn't much better than the show itself.

The movement is a bit choppy here and there and there's some tweening involved, but for the most part the animation and screen play looks pretty good, with fluid, dynamic action scenes enhanced with cool camera angles. I'm also getting used to these designs and the colors don't seem to be as much of an eyesore as they were in the earlier teaser, though that might be due to the video's low bit rate. The only thing I actively dislike in thi clip is the music. I hope this isn't indicative of the entirety of the show's tone, and that they will find a good balance of humor and serious stuff.

All in all, I think there's potential here.

From what I've heard from some people, the animation is better than you would expect but the writing is the worst.

the whole ep is simply non-stop, rapid-fire, execrably awful 'self aware' jokes that give zero regard to things like character personality or pacing. all the turtles are not only unbearable, but indiscernible from one another - they're all written like a really bad Michaelangelo[. . . .]The entire Episode 1 script is nothing but this sort of soulless cliche 'self aware, clever' tripe. the turtles are all morons who only ever succeed accidentally through soul-suckingly unfunny gags. Some of the most amazing action animation wasted on one of the worst comedy scripts.

Genndy Tartakovsky To Direct An R-Rated Comedy At Sony Pictures Animation
Following the success of Hotel Transylvania 3, which crossed $100 million at the U.S. box office on Tuesday, director Genndy Tartakovsy has signed up with Sony Pictures Animation to direct two more feature films.

Fear not, it’s not Drac Pack 4 and 5. One of the films, titled Fixed, is an R-rated comedy, while the other, Black Knight, is an adventure film.

Even without any details, it can be said that both of these sound boldly different. “I’m very excited to start this next adventure with my Sony family,” Tartakovsky told Deadline Hollywood, which first reported the news. “With their trust and support we are going to do something unique and different, and push animation to the next level.”

Sausage Party in 2016 – though that film was made without the participation of Sony Pictures Animation or its animation arm, Sony Pictures Imageworks. On the action side too, Sony is active; its upcoming Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse looks to offer a new tone and texture for superhero storytelling in animation.

The only possible hitch in all of this is whether Sony will follow through. The studio in the past has struggled to show faith in its creators and to bring interesting projects to completion. Tartakovsky himself has previously developed two projects at Sony – the original concept Can You Imagine? and an adaptation of the classic comic character Popeye – neither of which made it into full production. If and when Sony can overcome its own fears about trusting creators, they could become an unstoppable force in U.S. animation.

Well something good has come from those hotel Transylvania movies. I would normally be a bit more cautious about this, but Samurai Jack season 5 shows that he still has restain. I'll remain hopefully until a trailer drops. then I start to have doubts.
