here's a fun game, lets make up shitty r/nosleep titles
"I was called for penis inspection day, but my coach is dead."
"I took a shit so massive I felt blood, but the toilet bowl was empty"
"Every single day my father transitions into a woman"
"I don't think those were beans in that burrito I ate last night."

Was watching the lore lads q and a, a commentor asked about wendis killdozer episode, they said they hadn't seen it and were pretty diplomatic when chat said it was shit, but you could sort of sense the sucking of teeth.

The new story was super mid. They even acknowledged that if this place was killing that many billionaires they would have had it shut down already, I also found it weird how none of them mentioned how the super rich just abandoned their deaf daughter on a plane full of billionaires to visit a mansion were people seem to continuously die. The rich people just felt too over the top, and lacked any of the real alien weirdness you get from people that rich while the mid 30s "male" museum guide yet again felt like a man written by a tumblr woman with how often he froze in place and cried.

Its fucked up all the storys that are kinda like the gas station tale end up kinda mediocre. I yearn for a day where they cover something good about le supernatural job where I spend the whole story dealing with new things in one location with a poker face.
I wanna see the main character deal with a tweaker and figure out is this a normal tweaker or a supernatural tweaker.
Closest thing to what I got in that situation was the cctv story about the timeloop and of course tales of the gas station or that game shifft about midnight.

Okay, I'm not going nuts. I thought I was just reading too far into things when the majority of male characters read, sound and act like tomboys.
I don't know what it is, but in like half the stories they read the male protagonist reads like a pooner (trans man) or a woman who has never lived with a man idea of a man. They always just stop around and cry and "muh anxiety" when in real life I've seen even the most soyest of boys at least attempt to run or do something in emergencies.

While I agree with the sentiment that most of the male protags read like females writing men, I have encountered men that are exactly like some of them. The "lock up and autisticlly cover my ears and cry in case of panic" types do exist, surprisingly. I think the people I've seen do it had some shit going on or had some kind of autistic/panic disorder, but it is exhausting every other protagonist is like that.

it's because they're written by redditors, who only vaguely resemble actual men

The way these two always talk about that dumb gas station story you'd think it was the best thing they've ever read on this podcast.
it's more that it's the first story they read that follows the extremely overdone (and bad, imo) premise of "i work at this place where wacky, vaguely horror-themed events happen". there are probably hundreds more like it on nosleep and they're all terrible.
to this day tales from the gas station is the only story they've done that i cannot bring myself to sit through, i always end up dying of cringe like 15 minutes in. hunter is clearly not interested at all and wendi keeps stopping the story every 5 seconds to laugh at every other line like it's the funniest thing in the world.

I've never been a fan of the "I work at X place" stories either. Apparently the gas station books are good though, but I don't know anyone who's personally read them.

There was a point when creepypastas started being written by redditors for redditors. That’s when I stopped giving a shit about them since every story was
“hey I’m the narrator (I like having gay sex btw) and I went to a haunted house. Then I learned the real monsters are billionaires and global warming”

They should just not listen to whoever they are getting suggestions from and stop being so buddy buddy with the authors. The museum one had a lot of really cringy lines in it that they would have made fun of in the beginning.

Yeah that's another thing that grinds my gears. I don't mind first person narratives and what not but my GOD every story feels like when an author has their main character look in a mirror to justify describing the main character rather than slowly revealing details through interactions with the world. It's so tired that it is a cliche of a cliche at this point.

If there was such a thing they probably would have read it already. Those kinds of stories (slice of life) are just so hard to pull off. Like on top of impeccable writing and character development, you'd need an ocean's worth of subtext, lore, a grand narrative, or some combination of the three underlying your core premise if you want to build something truly meaningful out of it... and the prevailing sentiment I get from (the big) r/nosleep writers is throwing story premises at the wall and developing only the ones that get traction. Only to crash and burn as there was never a plan there to begin with.

The first time is always so special lol.

I liked tales of the gas station mostly because it became my headcanon that the raccoon mentioned was actually one of the tanuki from Pom Poko, and all the strangeness was actually mischievous tanuki trying to get the gas station to leave their mountain.

Something I don't understand is the characters constant regret about killing someone in self defense? I wanted to chalk it up to being a natural empathy thing with women but I never had any regret about hurting someone who hurt me personally, so It's confusing this mindset that someone attacking you doesnt deserve to die.

Regardless, story was gay and boring. I guess the ending was fine. Just not my thing. Very weepy.

I watched the Davis Morgan video on the novel version of We Used to Live Here. It's objectively a supernatural story and, at least to me, very silly, vs the nosleep version potentially being an unreliable narrator with some unspecified, unmedicated mental illness. It's basically Backrooms (the SCP style community driven one with all the levels, not Kane Pixels') with specific rules for how to hop between dimensions, with the realities overwriting/updating themselves to prevent paradoxes when someone enters/leaves a reality, though the person retains their own original memories without acquiring any new ones to help them find their place in the new world they find themselves in, leading to them being institutionalized and diagnosed with mental illness. It wasn't just the house that was special, the whole mountain was anomalous though the focus is still on the house but you get blurbs about other locations nearby

Most of the new content comes in between chapters, it's non-narrative world-building, newspaper articles, Wikipedia entries, stuff like that. The only really interesting thing was a newspaper article about a doctor losing his license for reinforcing the delusions of his patients because unrelated patients started telling stories about their previous reality that all lined up, so he started believing that something was going on and trying to figure it out. It did have a set of Donnie Darko's Philosophy of Time Travel-style rules that I guess were also somewhat interesting, basically Eve and Charlie were punished for entering the house with the intention of profiting off of it

Thomas is an immortal reality bender who's compelled to assemble the perfect family but every attempt ultimately leads to him having his face mutilated. I don't remember if the nosleep version confirmed it but, while he wasn't the one to paint the paintings he was the one to edit them, painting himself into them

I like the nosleep version better but I wasn't crazy about it, I didn't really like the novel version at all, I think it just overcomplicates and overexplains things

Eh, most people don't do so well with violence of any sort without prior acclimation to it, and you can certainly go find your fair share of self defense shootings resulting in a traumatized shooter. There's a reason that militaries and combat sports training and criminal organizations put a lot of effort into desensitizing their members to violence without just throwing them into the deep end all at once.

The method of violence is also going to matter for the psychological impact. It's a lot harder to stomach bashing someone's brains in with a hammer than it is to blow them up from another continent with the click of a button as a drone pilot. The depersonalization and gamification of violence is actually something quite studied as a matter of concern when it comes to the modern battlefield.

Maybe I'm the snarky middle-aged female protagonist self-insert that has to go to "therapy" then...
I don't know, it's always seemed odd to me but maybe I'm the odd one out here. I just assume its the natural instinct of most people to fight, and fight as hard as they can via any means necessary, when it comes to being attacked. Although, there's not a lot of empathy on the part of homeless drug addicts so maybe that's the issue. I just find it hard to imagine having any other emotion that isn't pure catharsis when it comes to killing someone who has tormented you for apparently a decade on? It seems silly to me!

I actually think Meat is, at this point, trying to see if he can Wendi legitimately worked up about any kind of principled stance on anything.
I know a closet chud IRL who listened to a bit of Creepcast and he is not in that Zoomer video essay world at all. He called Wendi a girly dweeb who he suspects to be secretly some type of repressed gay and he loves Meat because he’s very juvenile in his humor, but yeah bro I can’t argue with that assessment if you wanna know the truth about it.
He does get worked up and take a stance on thing like black lives matter and making fun of the gays.

In the we used to live here story he talked about how helpless he is without his wife and that people would take advantage of him if she isn't there to safeguard him as he is scared of conflict and a people pleaser. That even if they disrespect his relgion he wouldn't throw them out and instead do his best to win them over.

On to twitter watch:
He's getting a lot of shit on twitter from his takes on the resident evil movie.
Dumbwendi.PNG
It's the classic case of as previously stated by someone else in this thread of Wendi not being able to engage with the material at hand and just viewing it as a bunch of checkboxes. So when somone points out that beyond surface level keyjangling it had nothing in common with the games he shortcircuits. Cause to him there could be nothing to resident evil beyond guns & zombies.

It's crazy that he is viewed as the lore & resarch guy. When he is the least spirtual person to ever exist.

People in the replys call him a shill and he panics:
Wendidumb2.PNG
Two things about this. 1) So you would have taken the money to shill the movie if you had the time?
2) That happens all the time on youtube half the content on the plattfrom is undisclosed ads.
