I'm writing this now so I'm not influenced by fellow Kiwi's insofar as my opinion is concerned.
1. Isaiah and Hunter are annoying as fuck in the first part of this show
While I understand this is going to make me unpopular. Again. Isaiah is not a Christian. I refuse to hear any of you out on this. He follows nothing of Christian doctrine and teaching. He is a pederast-loving autistic with an hyperfixation on biblical stories and biblical history. Nothing, beyond the left-wing
"God loves Everyone!" talking point that is FALSE, has shown me that Isaiah is a Christian. He may go to Church, he may Love God, but he will not be going to Heaven. I do not believe he can repent either, and I do not believe he is within God's plan.
Please stop looking at gay porn and, earnestly, please read the bible less. He talks about it like he's in a fandom. Like the Bible is the MCU.
I'm also getting really big Ian and Anisa vibes from Lips and Dumpy Tats. I don't even remember his wife's name. Talk about a Bad End.
That aside,
2. The story is good once you get past the millennial cringe
The content is good for the most part. I had some main complaints
1a. Charlie is cringe.
Obviously, I am biased. I do not like Fags in my stories. It is disgusting. If not for my hands being preoccupied at work when I had already begun I would have stopped the story then and there. The kvetching about Sophie being homophobic was the second strike and I was lucky there was not a third. Because the story is good! I did like it! And, most importantly, it got inexorably better the moment Charlie exited the story.
1b. It takes a while to get going
I was thinking to myself, "How the hell did he make that slog 250 more pages?" I know how! By copying House of Leaves. The first half of the story is a real pain in the ass. I don't like it very much. Only after the attic scene was I really locked in. Prior to that, it is very obvious the author is stretching for time. It's a natural instinct of an author to want things to sit and want for your characters to really be explored. This is because the big reveals at the end only feel really good if you have a connection to this character.
However, Abigail meandering around in the beginning about how creepy the nice, White Christian couple are is insufferable. Again, I may be biased, but please calm down schizo.
1c. It is very obvious that the author wants this to be a movie.
This is most glaringly obvious during the Final Girl scene where Abigail is attacked after murdering Thomas's wife, Sophie. That entire scene feels ripped 1:1 from a Netflix original movie like The Babysitter. While an okay scene, it became a little unbearable after a while. I also am of the firm belief that the only reason that there was some Indian and the dyke shit is because that would automatically tick off some requirements for the Netflix ESG board.
Beyond that, the ending really saved it. I feel like this author has the issue opposite of Stephen King: His openings are bad but his endings are usually extremely good. I can only assume this is because he plans the ending beforehand.
3. I really want them to never do more licensed stories
This is an aside as I don't think they were personally holding back on this story, naturally because I like it myself, but when they talked about going to the
publishing companies of these stories for permission I decided I'd rather them not do that all. It is almost a guarantee that the only thing this will lead to is them holding back on making fun of, or having banter, with a story. Large conglomerate companies, especially in the art world, love to gossip and it is a natural fear of a reviewer that is given direct permission to review something by a company (e.g. being given a review company) that if they are too hard on it that they'll lose their industry connections.
I do not want to have to keep skipping an episode a week because the two draws of the show (the host's personalities) are dampened because some faggot in Seattle will get his pussy dry at being told his story sucks and is for faggots.
And, if the story doesn't suck, why bother? I'm not here for a book club I'm here for your personalities. It'll just be like back in August when we had back-to-back dogshit from NoSleep that wasn't even bad enough to joke about. Does anybody know any good riffs from Incel Horror Story or I Met My Wife's Boyfriend at a White Supremacist Summer Camp? No!
All in all, good episode and good story besides some issues.
I also watched the Jeff the Killer vs. Slenderman one and that's also spurred my latter rant. I can now firmly say that I absolutely do not want them to consistently do good stories. Which may sound crazy! But, I'm not here for good stories, I hadn't laughed as hard as I did at a CreepCast episode as I did for the Jeff the Killer vs. Slenderman one as I have in months. The natural format of the show does not lend itself to criticism. It sucks. I don't care that Fat and Lips gooned in their pants because that's not funny, and this is a comedy horror podcast. Please do more comedy.
Edit:
I forgot to add another point to 1c. Additionally, I think Abigail was crazy and Eve was just a psycho dyke obsessed with her caretaker. Probably a tranny too if we wanna be realistic about it. Just from my own experiences in hospitality.
After reading some of the replies, I also didn't take into consider the fact it was posted on Reddit in point 1c. I suppose that makes sense as well. I still stand by my theory that the author either wants it to be a movie or grew up on movies rather than books but understands the movie industry is impossible to enter by your own merits, so just hopes he can write a book that'll be a movie, the Fujimoto effect.
