No, that's 100% accurate. Not only that, but you're on track to the even bigger issue - a very large amount of people getting involved in Creepypasta, NoSleep, et al, were and are trying to get narrated or to get licensing (movie, tv, etc.) deals. When you're trying to follow NoSleep's rules AND write within the trend that's getting upvoted AND allow for possible future installments to sell in a book AND you want it to be the length and content type narrators need AND you're hoping to leave open the possibility for a film adaptation if you're lucky enough, you've just added rules on top of rules on top of rules and nothing is experimental, weird, or fun anymore.

There was a shitty "Virtual Convention" some years ago for online horror (mostly held on VRChat) that had a "panel" with two popular NoSleep authors at the time. Before the panel started, they were "hot mic'd" on the stream and were commiserating with each other about how difficult it is to write a story that capitalizes on the popular trend of that week or month, when it's like... just don't? It's a loser's game, anyway. I don't think I've heard of either of them again after that panel.

CreepCast provides a good look at these problems. Fan stories try to add in podcast memes, religious themes, Lovecraftian vibes, NoSleepy tropes, in the hopes it will get their story on the show - not because they do well with, understand, or even actually have any personal interest in the concepts they're writing about.

Pretty fun story, I enjoyed the goofiness at the beginning, the writing at the beginning felt like the dialog Meat would improv to make Wendi uncomfortable in a story he wasn't enjoying (or just to entertain himself regardless) before moving in to some nice, hopeless horror. I wish there'd been a bit more build-up/intrigue behind the one guy's wife 'leaving' him, like maybe he tricked her into getting captured so he wouldn't have to give up the kids/half his stuff in order to get fucked in the ass

Really? This was very nearly my breaking point. Less than two minutes in and Meat is being a disgusting fat fuck who actually had to get bleeped every five seconds. Meanwhile, Christian iceberg boy is gleefully clapping over two grown men being camper homos with a bunch of kids along for the ride. Meat has rapidly become everything I hate in a human being: slovenly, immature, woke, and hypocritical. As for Wendigoon, well... there's a joke in here about how he is, at best, only paying lip service to his faith at this point, but I'll be damned if I'm smart enough to find it.

I think that it was because of how much criticism it got over the AI usage. I don't generally keep up with new and developing ARGs/AHs and had heard the AI criticisms. To be fair, almost (or maybe) all of the animation was AI, and bad and inconsistent AI at that. The AI made shit incomprehensible with all the model/scene/voice swaps. Angel Engine's usage was definitely not the quality of some other series like "The Worlds in Between" or whatever that X/instagram series is called. This is the first I've ever heard of Greylock using AI, they might've gotten away with it since it was probably before the widespread criticism of AI (since it's been a while since their last upload, right?). The other series might not be "high profile" enough to warrant the criticism.

It's weird, they mock the gay dad thing when it gets brought up in the story, but then have lots of praise for a story that honestly was complete garbage.
Ignoring the homosexuality thing, there's just way too much random characterization in the story for characters who just gets killed, there's basically no build up until they hear sounds in the woods and then they get attacked like a paragraph later, absolute unhinged actions from the main character who decides that instead of going back for help he should find the lair of the monsters by floating down stream in the middle of the night in a lifejacket, shitty copypasta levels of blood and rape. I have zero good things to say about the story

I don't remember hearing the bit about the guy blowing the girls chin off with a fucking shotgun, then marrying her to avoid charges(what the fuck :story:) so that was new to me at least. I thought he'd married her after intimidating her parents or some shit.

I guess it really does show the inherent follies of being an actually Law Abiding Citizen™. Yeah it has an ultimately satisfying ending, but look at the damage the guy caused before they finally had enough. The justice system failed and so did the community imo. Hindsight and all that so whatever.

As for the faggot dad story, the story itself really was completely nothing. I get why they liked it from the perspective of "its like a schlocky slasher" but those at least have visuals to go with it. They also really wanna make edgy faggot jokes, since Nick apparently texted something about the dads getting ass raped and torn apart which kicked off the big giggle fit, but obviously it's gotta be couched in "it's okay between consenting adults behind close doors" meme or else the faggots and troons infesting the viewerbase will reee. Plus Hunter's a lefty and Wendi is a fake Christian blah blah.

I think they genuinely did just appreciate a basic bitch "and then the monster kills everyone" story and the giggle fits over trying to make fun of the inherently funny Gay Dads angle without getting in trouble elevated it more for them. They're retards. What do you expect at this point.
