Only weird thing I saw today was a guy curling weights on what clearly should have been incline cable flies. But I was touched by a morbidly obese guy working out with his friend. They both had solid form lifting and weren't trying to ego lift with their weight selection. Almost brought a tear to my eye

Heading the gym at 11. Thoughts and prayers please.

Been resting a reoccurring elbow injury and have only been hitting the sauna so far in the new year and jesus, that sauna, pool, and steam room are the busiest I've seen it.

Hoping the weight floor isn;t like that today.

It wasn’t that bad today. Cardio machines were mobbed but as a heterosexual I ignore them and went to the weights, which were not that bad except for fuckers blocking stairs

Steam room was uncomfortably busy. Hot blonde woman looked annoyed. Not sure if it was because guys were trying their best not to look at her and she’s internally complaining about “gaze rape”, but more than likely given her day-glo yellow swim suit, she was annoyed we weren’t all looking at her. No doubt she’s writing about the experience on Reddit as we speak.

Some of the girls showing up right now are wearing shorts so tight it makes their skin jealous. I could see one girl's g-spot from half way across the room.

On the one hand I am a male with blood in my veins. On the other hand it tips over from sexy to embarrassing - like seeing someone get pantsed in high school. The entire gym is seeing something that one guy is supposed to, y'know, at least buy you dinner for? How do you flirt with a woman who's flashing you before you even quip a joke?

I still don't see any fat people though, so I guess I should just count my blessings.

I like the exhibitionist woman at the gym. Makes you want to do decent form and lift harder even though you know she doesn't care. People complaining about them are secretly gay. Don't worry, you're amongst friends and we will not tell anyone.

Plenty of fat people today, hence the steam room being so uncomfortable, but good on them. If they stick around after February they'll be less fat. If they stick around 12 months there will be more money to upgrade equipment.

Hey, I'm managing to actually follow a new year's resolution to exercise every day, even if only to get my heart rate up and not be entirely sedentary. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I overdid it yesterday, so I want to get general opinions on what I should be doing as a beginner. I'd love to get really strong eventually, but I'm trying to be realistic. I've been doing random shit on-and-off for a while now, but right now during my current 5 day streak I've been doing doing push-ups and jumping jacks and I'm managing to maintain the streak so far.

I'm still not really good at push-ups and I can't tell if it's just because I have weak arms or if I'm doing them wrong. Yesterday, I did 4 sets of 20 jumping jacks each and then 20 pushups using my knees, because I read those were still okay even if they're not as good as actual push-ups, so you can start out with those. I can't tell if I'm being lied to or not. I'm not too sure about how I'm doing jumping-jacks either. I'm going to do really low-impact stuff for the rest of today so I don't make anything worse regardless.

Can I get some advice about these?

You probably have DOMs Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness, is the familiar pain, stiffness, and tenderness felt in muscles 12-72 hours after unaccustomed or strenuous exercise.
Totally normal for someone who gets back into working out. If it's not sharp pain, I honestly suggest you try to work through it as you plan to.

Thing a lot of people struggle with is their back pushing up or down in a swaying motion. This will happen to some degree if you're new, but try looking at your form in a mirror. Also, make sure your hands are in line with your shoulder blades. Push-up pyramids are good for frequency. If you want numbers to target, try 0 up to your current max.

Knee push-ups are fine, but I’d recommend incline push-ups (hands on a bench/couch) its the same movement pattern as a real push-up and it carries over better.

If your goal is VO₂ max, you’ll get more out of running, swimming, cycling, or rowing than push-ups or a few jumping jacks.

"Just lift, bro" is a meme, but, just lift, bro. There's a ton of cardio machines there if you fancy, but start on the weight machines. Just have fun. No one cares if you are doing it wrong , (the dickheads in here complaining about the form for newbies are just being dickheads.) Go, have fun! If someone gives you advise you should listen! They're usually trying to stop you getting a massive back injury.

I just got back from completing my 2nd set for today. I'd like to thank you both for your general advice. Anyway, for better context I don't have access to a gym at the moment because of where I live. I'm doing bodyweight based exercises right now out of necessity. For lifting, I'm just doing push-ups right now but if there's other exercises worth a try I'll take any and all suggestions into advisement. And, I'm doing jumping-jacks for "cardio" (lmao) because I don't like going outside, because there's feral niggers out there.

Go, have fun!
Thank you for the reminder! I am happy to report that I am currently having fun with it (most of the time).

I will try and set up my area so I can do proper incline push-ups in the future.

I work out at my home gym (bench press /squats , dumbells ,pull up bar , leg press , I usually just go hiking for legs though.) . But my buddy wanted to start working out and got a gym pass that allows a guest and wants help sticking to it. (I don't have cardio stuff at home which he wants) Holy shit was it packed. I get why you guys are complaining about resolutioners now.

You should definitely be doing more than just push-ups. Consider bulgarian split squats, planks, and russian twists for core strength which is always helpful. Also burpees for cardio once jumping jacks become too easy.
