Reading about local council proceedings filtered through the lens of a crazy guy is really interesting. Maybe we should have insane people write all our political journals.

Sure we'd never be entirely sure what actually happened and what was the product of a fevered mind, but it'd probably get a lot more people interested in political participation.

Basically I am counting on it. I may not win any race for office above City Committee (or I may, who knows), but nobody can deny I've gotten hundreds of people in Malden more involved in the political process, by basically watching what gonzo Warren is doing diving into the weeds, and then trying it out themselves in different ways.
The prospective Councillors were asked over 100 questions by citizen groups in the 2017 race, and not one had been asked one debate question or one questionnaire question in the 10 years previous. And I got the first set of 25 questions asked (with help from friends of course). And then like, another middle 25 more questions. And then some Chinese-American activists set up all these debates. All these other groups got involved. Like with a snowball rolling down a hill.
I'm good at starting off avalanches like that, it seems. Although at no time do I necessarily get a lot of personal respect about it. Cause I'm a bit of a brawler and a clown, and an idiot. But I have fun, and I help make politics fun, I think.
Local politics can be really actually very entertaining if you look at it a certain way. Like a full contact sport, except instead of playing over a ball they're playing over your personal life and future. Like a semi-participatory spectator sport where the stake is human lives.
"Malden Blood Sports", they say now :)

but nobody can deny I've
Well actually I guess Statler and Waldorf can basically deny anything. There was even a fun bit about how I am making up all the lead content of our water. If only that were true. I want to believe, lol. But even my biggest detractors in the Council now agree. Not only are there illegal amounts of lead in the water, the city's been fined by the state twice over it, and it's been in the Boston Globe more than once, in addition to my kooky Weekly Dig article.
And any arrogant airs I put on may in fact be made up. Most people are full of themselves. We could all be imagining a lot of things.
But omg City Council bloodsports are a pretty dank experience if looked at a certain way, and I think I am right about that part, at least.

Warren my dude, you gotta be happy that you're no longer working for this fuck-up who can't even be bothered to remember when his voting day is.

I made an account just for this, longtime lurker but the thrilling events of Warren-chan's betrayal and redemption arc swayed me to up my :autism: levels and get in here. Frankly I can't make my mind up as to whether or not I'm actually ready to fully embrace team Warren (he's a bit of an insufferable idiot) but like many of you I can't help but be impressed by his earnestness and general joi de vivre. Hopefully he can further redeem himself before his final street racing showdown with Bribri which will decide the fate of the 8th district and indeed, the world itself.

Also Ketone I'm a bit appalled you would apologize for fulfilling Warren's secret dick related fantasies, the man had it cumming.

I'm writing recaps of the night's events...I get to come off like the "reasonable guy" compared to my girlfriend whipping up angry citizens to make memes and whisper jokes and make people look like fools on television.
But I'm not. I'm not a very reasonable guy.
But the Council smelled which way the wind is blowing last night, and they all voted against Reefer Madness Lady 9-2. Things are looking well

Now that's the American Dream. Never get tired of winning.

After City Council today, Moratorium Matheson made a beeline for my girlfriend and me and said literally:
"WHY DON'T YOU LIKE MEEEEEE?"
I have a tiny violin for him :)

Give him a brief list of your most prioritized demands and see what he wants to offer up as a signal of his willingness to work with you already Warren. Don't make him beg for your favor outright, it's uncivilized to treat public employees who work for you that way at all levels of government.

I'd be remiss in my duties as an interested watcher if I didn't ask you for your impressions about the Ocsalo-Cortez upset last night. Personally I'm glad to see somebody who was handed the seat essentially in a subverted electoral process finally get their comeuppance even if it was two decades in the making and won't do much to hand over the gavel until the next election.

Looks like Brianna just bought another Porsche. Hope you enjoyed that $1.50 an hour you made Warren.

A real progressive just unseated one of the most powerful members of Congress yesterday (Ocasio-Cortez). Despite being a lowly bartender with student loans, she managed to pay her campaign workers a living wage along with benefits.

You're a nice guy Warren, but also just a Facebook progressive. When push comes to shove, you'll roll over for the rich person for Facebook likes.

The Ocasio-Cortez win is huge because it shows that bold progressives can win against establishment Democrats even at the very TOP of the ticket. We have had so far 57 Berniecrats win federal primaries, and 1 in 5 win state level!
It rules!
She paid her main staff well, I bet, but she had hundreds of unpaid volunteers who did it just for the love, and she spent less than 1/10th what her opponent spent :)

Hey, Warren... do you reckon there's a limit to the number of luxury sports cars you can buy in one year and still call yourself a progressive? Because Brianna's now on her third Porsche in the last 12 months not to mention the ill-fated Audi TT.

Seriously though, doesn't it gall you even a little that someone who displays such conspicuous consumption also refused to pay you a living wage for your work? She could have put 50K of her (by which I mean Frank's) money in to the campaign and still had enough change out of her Porsche fund to buy a brand new, very nice car.

Maybe she was able to get hundreds of passionate volunteers because she actually cared about those causes and worked her ass off instead of sitting at home looking for a 3rd Porsche.

Either way, Brianna and Frank had the means to pay you a living wage. They chose a couple more Porsches instead. Ocasio-Cortez is a bartender with a ton of student loans since she actually graduated college. She didn't have the means.

One's a real progressive. The other plays one on Twitter in-between luxury car purchases.

and 1 in 5 win state level!
I hate not being able to edit. I meant 105, not 1 in 5. The ratio of primary wins was more like 40%. Which is odd because usually incumbents win 80 to 90% of races :)

I never agreed with her on the Porsche stuff, or any kind of conspicuous consumption. I do think it's possible to be a rich gaudy progressive, but it makes it harder, I think. For example Sam Hammar in my district I respect a lot more than her opponent, because she's a struggling mom who wears t-shirts and jeans, whereas her opponent wears fancy suits and went to Harvard Business School.

I try not to be galled by things. Although folks try to bait me.
I drive a second hand Jeep with an "I support veterans" sticker, and that's just me. I don't think it makes somebody better to be poor, but I think that most voters are poor, and it's easier to reach people over things you have in common with them. Cars aren't really my big thing but maybe, I don't know, movies, comic books, politics, wacky adventures? Most people like talking about their wacky adventures, I think?

You ducked it again. It's not about the fact that she has money, or even that she spends it, but rather that she'd rather buy herself luxury cars than pay her campaign staff a decent wage.

Address this, please.

The True Believer here in Warren seems to have made some real strides in understanding how fake Brianna was. He's barely defending that she fired him over not paying him minimum wage yet is tossing 6-figures left and right for TOYS.

While he still disagrees with me, and probably will :disagree: me on this one, I really can see the difference in just a dozen pages.

I'm really impressed, Warren. I think you're one without a ton of pride to get in the way of understanding being swindled, but it is still difficult.

Shine on you crazy diamond.

Do you have any opinion on, if someone happens to be wealthy, which tends to be better class of person: those who worked for their wealth, or those who inherit or, totally hypothetically, marry in to it?

Shine on you crazy diamond.
Thank you. You said some nice things. And I'd rather be grudgingly respected as "insane but has guts" than try to be thought of as "sane". Which isn't going to happen, lol.
Although if you want to be "friends", maybe don't wish for me to be dosed with PCP and shot?
Not trying to be the manners police here, but kind of an odd choice from a supposed would-be "friend"?

If it makes you feel any better, we all would have rated him A-log, but Null took our A-log rating away.
:(

That wasn't me. That was polonium. I've only been nice to you, even if you think the crown of dicks you kept asking for wasn't nice... Consider I spent my free time to create that art for you.

I may seem harsh at times, but it's only because I treat you how I'd want to be treated in the same situation. I'm actually quite impressed that you didn't freak out and build a wall to keep all us "mean lying trolls" at bay while you went back to working for Bribri, this time as an unpaid volunteer.

I think she pays better than most struggling politicians of her level. But yes, I would enjoy having highly paid, happy, enthusiastic staffers more than I would enjoy driving a fancier car, if I were the one running. There's nothing better than good staff. Not that I'm biased, lol.
